My daughter likes cartoons. I think most kids do. Every few months, she finds a new series on our streaming service and that is all she wants to watch. In the summer, she wanted to be a pirate for Halloween because she was watching “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.” However, at the moment she wants to be a My Little Pony. In fact, she even has a specific my little pony in mind. However, I think I will wait a few weeks until we pick out her Halloween costume. After all, she might change her mind. If your child likes animated television programs, here are a few ideas on how to make, or where to find, your child’s favorite cartoon Halloween costumes.
Jake and the Never Land Pirates
I was a little excited to have my daughter dress up as Izzy and my son to dress up as Cubby. However, if your child is interested in dressing up as a character from Jake and the Never Land Pirates, it’s not too hard to replicate. Jake wears blue pants, a white t-shirt, red headband and brown boots. Cubby has red shorts, a white shirt, blue bandana and brown shoes. The trickiest part is the blue vest that both characters wear. You can take a dark blue t-shirt and cut off the sleeves. Then, cut it up the middle and sew on some gold trim (Cubby has gold buttons instead). Izzy wears purplish-blue pants, red boots and a satin pink tunic. She also has a pink bandana with a gold doubloon pouch necklace. If you are interested in purchasing these costumes you can find Izzy’s and Jake’s at the Disney Store.
My Little Pony
There are quite a few my little pony costumes. A velour jumpsuit and wig in your ponies’ color makes a great base for a Halloween costume. You can make a tail out of several pieces of felt cut into wavy pieces. Another idea is to take a ponytail extension clip-on for the tail. Make sure to draw a cutie mark with fabric markers on your child’s leg or use an iron-on cutie mark. You can also go to target.com for plenty of “My Little Pony” costumes.
Spongebob Squarepants
My daughter hasn’t watched “Spongebob Squarepants.” However, it has been a popular cartoon for some time. If you are crafty, you can take a big box and cut out holes for your arms, legs and head. Next, paint it yellow, white and brown. Then, draw a Spongebob face. If you would rather buy the costume, here is an inexpensive Spongebob children’s costume from Walmart.
Justice League/ Superhero Costumes
In my experience, kids love to play superheroes. Many costumes like Superman and Batman can be pulled off with tighter pants, a long sleeved shirt and a cape. Supergirl requires a long sleeved blue shirt with a red, circle skirt and cape. If you are not interested in making a costume, you can find plenty of Superhero and other cartoon character Halloween costumes at costumecraze.com.
Happy Halloween!
