Ordinary spaghetti with sauce is delicious, but it can taste better than ever. With a few simple additions, the flavor can be greatly enhanced. It can also look more appetizing and include fresh veggies. The consistency can also be vastly improved. A single dish can include many different textures. Try these five scrumptious ways to add savor to your favorite recipe, even if you usually use sauce from a jar. You can jazz it up in a matter of minutes.
Add Bacon and Fresh Spinach Leaves
Bacon is incredibly flavorful all on its own, especially if it is hickory smoked. Add more flavor to ordinary spaghetti by stirring crisp crumbled bacon and baby spinach leaves into the sauce. Alternately, crumbled bacon bits and steamed baby spinach leaves can be used as a topping. Both will greatly enhance the flavor and appearance of the dish.
Top It with Aged Parmesan Cheese
Grated parmesan cheese in a canister is nothing like the real aged variety. To add tremendous flavor and appeal to your usual pasta and sauce, top it with coarsely grated aged parmesan cheese instead of the canned type. The difference is astounding, especially to those who prefer stronger cheeses. More than likely you will prefer it to the topping that is most commonly sprinkled on spaghetti.
Stir in Diced Onions and Mushrooms
Sweet white onions are exceptionally flavorful, especially when stirred into spaghetti sauce. If the onions are not cooked until they turn to mush, they also add tremendous crunch. To add flavor to your ordinary sauce, stir in diced onions and fresh mushroom slices about twenty minutes before it is ready. They will both make a huge difference in the overall taste.
Add Black and Green Olive Slices
If you are tired of ordinary spaghetti, add sliced olives. Instead of just adding the black or green variety, stir in both. Each one has a unique flavor, and they will both greatly enhance the flavor of the sauce. For those who do not care for one, the other or both, serve them separately after sauteing them for a just a few minutes in genuine butter.
Stir in Sweet and Flavorful Bell Pepper Strips
Green bell peppers are also highly flavorful, and the flavor comes out as they are cooked. To liven up ordinary spaghetti sauce, stir in sweet bell pepper strips. Let them cook in the sauce until slightly soft, or saute them in butter. Either way they will taste phenomenal in your usual spaghetti dish.
