Five Fun Filled Water Parks in Southern California

The warm weather months are here and what better way to spend them, than in the cool water. Southern California is the home to some of the best water parks the United States has to offer, and with the weather getting warmer; people are looking for water fun to keep them cool. Here is a list of some of Southern California’s best water parks.

Legoland Water Park located in Carlsbad, North of San Diego about 30 minutes. At Legoland Water Park kids are able to create, (out of giant, soft Lego’s) their own rafts to use to float down the lazy river. They will have the ability to create music, by covering holes that shoot out water. Covering the holes causes different tones and noises, creating unique water music. The Joker Soaker is a station in the middle of a wading pool. Here kids are able to spray one another with water cannons. For the younger toddlers, inside the Splash Zoo are giant interactive DUPLO animals perfect for those ages 1 to 3.

If hunger finds its way into all the fun, there is always the Beach Front Grill that specializes in gourmet wraps and burritos. Quesadillas, salads, sandwiches and fresh fruit are also available. The Legoland Water Park offers, for a low fee, small and large lockers to store your belongings. If a little privacy is wanted, Cabanas are available for rent as well. However, advanced booking of a cabana is probably a good idea if you know you want one.

Legoland Water Park is open Thursday thru Monday 10am to 6pm. To avoid the mid day rush of people, it is recommended to visit the water park between 10am and 1pm or from 3pm to closing. Ticket admission to Legoland California and Legoland Water Park is $93 for adults and $83 for children ages 3 to 12 for a 1-day water park hopper pass if purchased online. Tickets purchased as walk in are $97 for adults and $87 for children ages 3 to 12. Legoland California is located at One Legoland drive, Carlsbad, California, just off of interstate 5. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor is a great water park for all ages. For the thrill seekers there is the Black Snake Summit made up of 5 water slides, two are fully enclosed and the tallest in Southern California. The Taboo Tower with send you soaring at high speeds at the Daredevil Plunge, Escape Chute and Secret Passage water slides. Looking for more family friendly water fun, there is the Bamboo Races, a six lane water toboggan race. Then relax on the 1,300-foot-long Lazy River or take the family and venture down the Lost temple Rapids. For the younger children, Hurricane Harbor has a Castaway Cove play area, water slides, rain curtains and there is plenty of squirting fun at Splash island.

All the play and excitement can work up an appetite and Hurricane Harbor has that covered as well. Enjoy some delicious ice cream head over to Ben and Jerry’s. Need something a little more on the meal side? Head to Buccaneer Village and get s cheeseburger at Cowabunga Burgers or the Famous Famiglia Pizza at Red Eye’s Kitchen.

When purchasing your tickets try to do so online and in advance. By doing so each person only pays $30.99 each from now till September 2013. Relax yet even more, while floating down Sunset River. Shaped like the figure eight, this 1,780 foot long river is one of the longest lazy rives in a water park, in the world.

When taking a break from all the fun, don’t forget to grab a bite to eat and something to drink. Soak City offers hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, fresh salads and even pizza at Longboard’s Grill. If you are looking for more of a snack, Surf Daddy’s Food Hut has Icee’s, pretzels, Churros and more.

Aquatica San Diego is one of SeaWorld’s water parks, so you can only imagine how awesome it it. For those looking for a thrill, the HooKoo Run is the experience you are looking for. Choose from an enclosed or open air slide and soar 80-feet down Aquatica’s steepest drop. Need some more thrills? The Kiwi Curl is a high speed slide with twists, turns and darkness, to give the ultimate thrill. Walhalla Wave is great for the whole family. Everyone get to sit together in a raft and enjoy the long twists and turns that await them. Afterwards, take the family and splash in over 500,000 gallons of water with swells up to five feet high, at BigSurf Shores. Kids looking to swim and splash all day can enjoy doing so at the Kata’s Kookaburra Cove. For a little more excitement they can venture to the interactive, four story, Walkabout Waters, a complete fun zone. Roughly, every five minutes a big bucket dumps 500 gallons of water, soaking anyone who just happens to be below it.

When Lunch time rolls around Aquatica, has that taken care of as well. If a snack is all that is wanted Big Surf Snacks is the place to go. Kids love the funnel cake, soft serve cones, and chicken tenders. If wanting a filling lunch, visit the Waterstone Grill and try the Asian influenced, Edamame Wraps and Orange Chicken, or a good Traditional Western Burger. Mango market has personal pizzas, fresh baked pasta and salad and two signature pastas: the Baked Chicken Alfredo and Tomato basil. For a little adult R and R the Rockwater Oasis has refreshing margaritas and locally brewed beer on top or bottled.

Here, thrill seekers can reach speeds of almost 40 miles an hour on Drop Out, an extreme, seven-story high, body slide. Need more, drop 40 feet and speed through 360 degree spins, all in total darkness in the Tunnel of Terror. Test your skills and try to cross from pad to pad without falling in the water, on the Lily Pads obstacle course. The whole family can have a great time together at Splash Island Adventure. Splash island adventure has 75 activities spread out over a fun 12 levels. The Kid’s kingdom is a 30,000 square foot attraction of tubes and slides and waterfalls just for the children. Or, they can climb through the giant volcano at Volcano Fantasea.

Restaurants are available at Raging Waters, for when the time comes to take a break and re-fuel. There is Pipeline Pizza, featuring a Famous Freshetta Pizza, plush whole pizzas, Bosco Breadsticks and fresh salad. Sharkey’s has chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, chili-cheese dogs, fries and kids meals. It is a perfect place for everyone. Beach Bum BBQ serves up Pulled Port Sandwiches, St. Louis Style Ribs, Tri-Tip, Chicken and other mouthwatering foods.
