Some people with greasy hair may feel that they have to wash their hair everyday. However, even though someone with greasy hair may wash their hair daily, they might still end up dealing with greasy hair. If your hair tends to be greasy or oily, even after washing it often, here are a few tips to make it look cleaner and less greasy.
Even though you might feel the need to wash your hair daily, doing so may be the cause of your greasy hair. Instead of washing your hair every day, try to wash it every other day. Over time, when you stop washing it daily, your hair will become less greasier. A friend of mine would wash her hair every day because she said her hair always felt oily. When I told her to try going a day or two without washing it, she noticed that over time, her hair became less greasier. She was even able to go two to three days without washing it without dealing with a buildup of oil.
I know it may be hard to go without washing your hair when your hair is greasy, but it may just help out in the long run. In the beginning, you may have to deal with extra grease until your hair gets used to you not washing it daily. Eventually, once your hair gets used to this routine, you might find that your hair is much less greasier and you can go more days between washing.
Another tip that may be helpful at combating greasy hair is by using a clarifying shampoo. A clarifying shampoo can remove the buildup in your hair. If you happen to use hair sprays or gels, this is especially useful for getting rid of the junky buildup in your hair. Also, a good clarifying shampoo may remove the buildup of oil and grease on your scalp and hair. It could end up keeping your hair looking fresher and less greasy. It may not be a good idea to use a clarifying shampoo too often though, as it could possibly dry out your hair.
If you use conditioner on your hair, you may want to only condition the ends of your hair, instead of conditioning your hair from roots to ends. The conditioner could make your scalp and roots greasy and weigh your hair down as well. You might want to try a lightweight conditioner for the ends of your hair.
You might also be shampooing your hair at the roots only and if this is the case, then the rest of your hair might become oily, especially if you are also applying conditioner to it. You might want to try shampooing your hair from top to bottom every time you shampoo to prevent the bottom part of your hair from becoming greasy. Doing this with a clarifying shampoo once or twice a week might help even more.
Besides using a clarifying shampoo, there are some other shampoos that you might want to use in between that could help with your greasy hair. Shampoos with certain ingredients, such as tea tree oil, or other all natural or organic shampoos that do not contain harsh chemicals, might help to absorb the oils in your hair and keep it healthy looking. However, you may want to make sure you aren’t drying your hair out too much, as this might cause an overcompensation of oil and leave you with greasy strands again. Which is why it may be a good idea to only wash your hair every other day or every few days.
Washing your hair in lukewarm water may be best. Hot water may tend to make hair more greasy as it can dry out the scalp too much, which then may make your scalp overcompensate by producing more oils.
If you do not follow a healthy or well balanced diet, you might want to try it to see if it could change the condition of your hair. You may be lacking certain vitamins and nutrients that could possibly change the health of your hair, resulting in a healthier scalp and less greasy hair.
