For Someone Special: DIY Mother’s Day Gift Basket Ideas

by fat vox

I came across the cutest tin buckets with a ribbon for the handle. With only a week left until Mother’s Day, I snatched up several and began filling the buckets with items my mother, sister and mother-in-law would enjoy. Do-it-Yourself gift baskets (or buckets), are a creative way to show any mom you care. In addition, by making the basket yourself, you can save a lot of money. Here are some DIY Mother’s Day gift ideas.

Baking Basket

If you know a mom who loves to bake, then this is the perfect gift. First, purchase a quality cake or muffin pan. Williams-Sonoma has some great options. Then, add a box of cake mix or a bag of flour and some sugar. Finally, add some decorating accessories such as sprinkles, a decorators pen and an icing spatula. An apron or oven glove can add some color to this gift. Finally, wrap it up in cellophane in a bread basket.

Nail Polish Bouquet Basket

Every time I’m at the drugstore, there are always so many lovely nail polishes. To start, pick out at least five colorful nail polishes. Wrap the nail polishes up in some tulle with a green ribbon. Then, add some foot scrub, lotion and a foot file. If you have money to spend, you can put these items into a foot bath.

“The Thinker” Basket

Does your mother like to read, write or draw? Does she like crossword puzzles or sudoku? For “the thinker” basket, purchase a soft canvas bucket, a journal and the latest novel on her “must-read” list. A new board or card game is fun too! If you want to splurge, tuck in a tablet reader. Of course, some tea, coffee and a nice mug can complete this gift.

Chick Flick Basket

Do you know a mom who likes movies? Then, treat her to a chick flick basket with “Pitch Perfect,” “Reality Bites,” “Love Actually,” and “The Notebook” (and really anything from Nicolas Sparks). Don’t forget to throw in some classics like “Gone with the Wind” and a tearjerker such as “Steel Magnolias.” An air popcorn maker and some popcorn kernels are a nice way to provide mom with a healthy treat. Other ideas are a gift card to the movies or a movie subscription service.

Exercise or Outdoor Enthusiast “Basket”

Grab a backpack or gym bag and pack it with exercise essentials. For the yoga enthusiast, pack it with a mat and yoga tights. For women who like to run, include some moisture wicking running gear, sport’s watch and nice socks. The hiker would enjoy a BPA-free water bottle, sunscreen, wireless activity tracker and a compass.

I hope your mom enjoys one of these DIY Mother’s Day gift basket ideas!
