Fun and Easy Christmas Decorations Using Wooden Crates

by fat vox

The simple design and overall sturdiness of wooden crates make them a natural for holiday decorating. While normally utilized as an attractive storage option, a little bit of ingenuity can easily turn them into eye catching Christmas displays.

Present Stacking

Gaily wrapped holiday presents are just too pretty to keep hidden until Christmas morning. After getting those holiday goodies under wraps, arrange them in an attractive order in your wooden crates. Stack them in descending order according to size. Allow the tiniest and cutest gift to peek out over the top. The units can then be arranged around the holiday tree or in a corner of the living room. A wide length of red or green ribbon tied around each crate will finish off the decoration beautifully.

Seasonal Flower Display

Who doesn’t love a large arrangement of poinsettias around the holidays? Place a thick wedge of floral foam on the bottom of each crate. Set as many pots of seasonal flowers on top of the foam as comfortably fits. Set a crate in each room so that the holiday cheer is spread throughout the home. Not only will this pretty display perfectly complement all of the other Christmas décor, the wooden crates provide a bit of added protection to the delicate plants.

Add Some Light

Candles have traditionally been a beloved holiday decoration. Unfortunately, the safety hazards of candles with real flames make them impractical for some families. A terrific way to bring the beauty of light into the home for the holidays is with flameless candles. Place a block of wood or a stack of any sturdy material on the inside of each crate. Cover the base of your chosen material with a layer of colored cloth. Choose the color wisely as it will be seen through the slats. Red or green material will catch the eye, while silver or gold may be too subtle to attract much interest. Set a variety of flameless candles on the base, making sure several can be easily admired over the top. These nifty little inventions come in all sizes. Arranging pillars with votive size and everything in between will create the most dramatic decoration.

Children’s Books

Very few us do not become a bit nostalgic when seeing children’s holiday books from the past. Visit your local bookstore or the nearest consignment shop to pick up several volumes of these wonderful stories that feature beautiful artwork on the covers. Wrap a large cloth bow around a wooden crate and then fill with these fantastic pieces of the past. Friends and family will not be able to resist going through the contents to find their favorites.
