Sometimes a funny Bible verse can have more impact then just reading about guidelines to help people live a better life. Several verses from the Bible use humorous sayings about a dog to make humans think and take action to avoid mistakes. All of these verses are taken from The Living Bible Paraphrased. Yanking A Dog’s Ears
Proverbs 26:17 says “Yanking a dog’s ears is no more foolish than interfering in an argument that is none of your business.” Some folks like conflict or enjoy a good meddling into other’s lives. This verse illustrates the impact that interfering in an argument might have.
A couple of times I have tried to pick up my dog and grabbed her ears by mistake. The reaction has been either being bitten or having a look given me of great hurt. A similar reaction might occur if I meddle in the lives of humans. Hurt will occur, and it could just be bad feelings or perhaps some real pain will happen. You don’t need to even have a high level of intelligence to understand this verse.
Returns To Vomit
Proverbs 26:11 says “A dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.” If you have ever watched a dog, they can do some cute things as well as some ugly things. People can learn to avoid those ugly things and spend more effort on happy stuff. King Solomon wrote many of the Proverbs and the word folly was used quite often.
Modern day description of the word folly on a TV show might be blooper or stupidity. Watching people keep repeating things that are just plain dumb makes ratings on television. In real life this Bible verse illustrates a picture in your mind that is easy to remember. People can learn from doing the same foolish things by watching a dog’s ugly moments.
A Live Dog
If you go to Ecclesiastes 9:4 you will read “There is hope for the living. It is better to be a live dog than a dead lion.” People who have developed a big ego and think they are indestructible and command control of others may take notice of this verse.
If you read the all of the Old Testament in the Bible, stories about rulers who acted like a powerful lion had their downfall. Having a good life and projecting love is better than dying by causing others harm. Take heed of these funny Bible verses about dogs and you have some good clues of how to have a good life.
