Future of Indian Print Media: What is Next?

by fat vox

What medium you choose to get news around you newspaper, television, or internet? Many of you will pick the third option. And, it will indicate a distinct change in the medium of news. It has become a common phenomenon that the print medium of news circulation is losing its strength due to the advent of internet enabled mobile devices. Such devices let people read a news paper as per their preferences. Hence, you can read a custom newspaper. In this way, you will have to pay for what you read instead of paying the wholesome amount of a multi pages news paper. In large picture, internet mediums do not ask for money from users. This medium is free of cost for readers.

The Change Driver

The fast-paced lifestyle does not allow anyone to enjoy the leisure of reading a complete news paper from cover to cover. You simply prefer to read productive stuff to grow more efficiently in your profession. And, here a detailed news paper lacks. Though, the online medium is not capable of circulating a message the news story like a printed news paper does. But, new age readers do not require any message related to something they don’t relate with. Relatively, it is tougher to carry a newspaper in comparison to a mobile device.

The Great Old Missionary Journalism

In past, print media journalism was like a mission, slightly inspired with socialism. There were journalists, who were writing for the deprived, enslaved, and fragile sections of society. In those times, journalists were writing to bring the positive change in their concurrent societies. Gradually, the world changed. In 1865, the American civil war ended up at the eventual freedom of enslaved Negro peoples. Subsequently, such events also happened in other parts of the world. And, it gave a powerful boost to the middle class citizens. Noticeably, the exploitation of such peoples made journalists to write about person based news stories to make other readers aware with the wrongdoings with someone certain.

The Ad Walk

In the wake of industrial revolution, the western world as well as the third world went through a series of iconic changes; the journalism was moving from missionary journalism to commercial journalism. The impact of news stories on people made industrial organizations use this medium to find new customers through effective advertising and marketing. And, the inflow of money through advertising turned print media houses into brand development organizations, clad in graphically enhanced news journals. In this way, the first daily newspaper of England ” Daily Courant” laid the foundation stone of advertisement in print medium. It made other news journals to claim more and more readers because the number of readers was the absolute standard of ad revenue. It turned journalism into a mainstream profit earning industry.

The Big Fall of Print Medium

As the readership was necessary to stay profitable in the business so print media organizations did their best for reaching out to their targeted readers. The daily and mid-day versions were the way to print news stories asap. But, the arrival of electronics and virtual media left the print medium helpless. The competition in breaking news stories between online & print media does not exist because print media cannot beat virtual media in any way, even if it wants to do.

Print Medium Is Dying, But Soul Exists, and It will exist!

It is sure that the print media industry will not be as flourishing in future, as it is today. However, the quality, look & feel, and power to make the people think after reading a news story, published in newspaper will increase. Gradually, the cost of news paper will rise too. The amazing rise in the cost of an Indian news paper ‘The Hindu’ from 3.50 INR a copy to 8.00 a copy indicates the change.

In future, the print media will evolve to become the means of well-researched and analyzed news stories and online media will keep people updated with recent happenings around the globe. So, it is a rebirth of print media.
