Overview – Spiral is such a good Marvel: Avengers Alliance hero that her very presence in the game is likely to all but retire many other heroes from active play. She is equally useful in both PvP and PvE. She is a rare hero that doesn’t need her level 9 attack power in order to be truly effective. If she has any drawbacks, it is that she is almost entirely offensive. She isn’t completely without defensive abilities, but she is rather flimsy. This just means she either needs to be paired with a defensive hero or just needs to pile on the offense so quickly that enemies can’t respond. She is powerful enough that the latter is actually a meaningful option.
How to Obtain – To obtain Spiral you need to win her from the Adamantium league during PvP Season 11. Alternately, she will also go on sale for 135 command points in November or December of 2013.
Special Abilities – Dancing Queen – Dancing Queen is a special ability that gives this character a chance to avoid any attack. Avoiding like this will grant her an extra turn and, if she has combat reflexes, she will also counter with the Macabre Fandango power. This isn’t remarkably likely to happen, but when it does she places debuffs on all enemies and gain buffs. This ability is her primary defense, but since it is entirely luck based, you may want to build your team to give her additional protection.
Cut Loose (Level 1) – Cut Loose is a moderately high damage single target melee attack that has a high stamina cost. The damage on this attack is deceptive because, if this attack hits, it will always score a critical hit and deals higher than normal critical damage. Additionally, when this attack is used Macabre Fandango changes to Sword Dance, until you use Sword Dance. This can be a mixed blessing, so don’t use this attack if you intend to use Macabre Fandango.
Flashbolt (Level 2) – Flashbolt is a massively high damage single target ranged attack that also has a massively high stamina cost. The attack is stealthy and causes both the bane debuff and the unique depower debuff. The latter prevents the target from placing any status effects with powers. This is a devastating attack against bosses and in PvP, especially against enemies like Cyclops. When Flashbolt is used Macabre Fandango will change to Dance Magic Dance, which is probably the best of all the level 6 powers this character has. You should probably either start every fight with Flashbolt and it is good enough that it may be the only attack you use during some fights.
Macabre Fandango (Level 6) – If there is any power you would choose to open with other than Flashbolt, Macabre Fandango is that power. This high stamina cost power puts pressure points on all enemies and rising up on the entire team. The attack is subtle, so it ignores protection and counters. It is a great opening attack and a perfect setup when this character is teamed with allies like Captain Britain or Mockingbird.
Sword Dance (Level 6) – Sword Dance is a melee attack that hits all enemies and deals moderately low damage for a massively high stamina cost. It is stealthy and puts weak point on all enemies and mirror image this character. Despite these benefits, the attack is not particularly great for its cost. The main reason to use Sword Dance is to make Macabre Fandago available again. In a few fights mirror images will be critical, but usually the stamina cost is simply too high to justify using this attack.
Dance Magic Dance (Level 6) – Dance Magic Dance is a nearly perfect attack. It deals low ranged damage to all enemies for a high stamina cost. More importantly, it is catastrophic, which means it can’t be avoided or protected against. It has a chance of putting up to five ongoing damage types on enemies, including one that will remove all buffs. Additionally it has a chance to put regeneration, recuperation, and force fields on all allies. These are basically the best offensive and defensive effects in the game all on a single power. You should use this power just about any time you have the option.
Fouette en Tournant (Level 6) – Fouette en Tournant is the worst of the level 6 powers. It has an unbelievably high stamina cost and all it does is disorient all enemies and give epiphany to all allies. These benefits simply aren’t worth the cost, especially since this power does no damage at all. The best reason to use this power is to make Macabre Fandango available again.
Time Spiral (Level 9) – Time Spiral is a ranged attack that does moderately high damage to a single target for a massively high stamina cost. The attack also has a chance to stun the target and will exhaust the target. Finally, when Time Spiral is used Macabre Fandango will change to Fouette en Tournant. Overall, this is a pretty terrible power. The cost is way too high for a single target stun power and if it does stun the target, the exhaustion effect will often be useless. Furthermore, Fouette en Tournant is simply terrible. You should essentially treat this power like it doesn’t exist and only use this character’s level 1, 2, and 6 powers.
Unlocks – This character is not currently required to unlock any Marvel: Avengers Alliance game content, but will almost certainly be required for a future special operation.
PvP – Spiral is absolutely brilliant in PvP. Her biggest flaw is that it takes her a round to setup her best attack, Dance Magic Dance, but even that isn’t a big deal since it makes the power even more useful if soulfire activates. Flashbolt should be your bread and butter in PvP both to open up Dance Magic Dance and because it entirely nullifies many heroes. Team her with either a defensive hero or equip your agent with defensive gear, because she will almost certainly be the primary target of your opponents. You almost certainly want to make sure that at least one of your party members is a bruiser because her flimsy defenses are easily taken advantage of by scrappers, especially ones like Ghost Rider, Magik, or Spider Woman that have stealthy attacks.
Variant Uniforms – No variant uniforms currently exist for this character in Marvel: Avengers Alliance, but it is possible that one will be released in the future.
