1 cup sugar
½ cup light corn syrup
Foil or wax paper
White chocolate chips or white chocolate bark
Why do people make such a fuss over creating special goodies for a holiday? They spend hours in the kitchen, crafting, creating, baking, and working. It’s enough to ruin the holiday. Or are you the opposite of that? Do you run to the nearest store and just purchase whatever they happen to have for sale? This year, make your own treats, but do quick ones that please. There are many dessert, main dish, and treats that you can make for Halloween. One of them is mummy suckers; do them the easy way, or a way that’s a bit more involved, and surprise all of your Halloween visitors.
Mummy suckers are super simple if you just buy the suckers to start. The ones that you should get are the suckers that are round and flat. You can turn them into yummy mummies in a few minutes. Kids will love them but adults will, too.
For a party, or for trick-or-treat night, make the mummy suckers, and spend little time doing it. Lay foil or wax paper on a baking sheet and lay out the suckers. Melt white chocolate chips, or chocolate bark, and drizzle it over the suckers. Make an effort to get the drizzle to look like mummy bandages; allow some of the sucker color to show through the wrappings. Finish by sticking a couple of candy eyes to the sucker; the chocolate bark will help hold them in place. If needed, put a dot of light corn syrup in the eye area, and stick the eye to it. Make mummies with two eyes; make monsters with one – or three!
If you want to make homemade monster suckers, and give them the particular flavors that you want, you can quickly whip them up in the microwave. Put foil on a baking sheet (shiny side facing up) and lay the sucker sticks on it. Mix a cup of sugar and a half-cup of light corn syrup in a bowl. Cover with cling wrap, microwave for a minute and fifteen seconds, and take it out for a good stir. Cover with a new piece of cling wrap and microwave for an additional minute and fifteen seconds.
Remove the sucker mix, stir in food coloring and/or flavoring, and spoon the mix over the sucker sticks. Allow to set solid. When they’re ready, decorate them by spooning the white chocolate bark over them, and place the eyes on each one. If you’re giving the mummies out for trick-or-treat wrap each one in cellophane. If not, stand the suckers up in a Styrofoam block for Halloween guests to help themselves.
