Halloween Yard, Graveyard that Is

by fat vox

What are your deepest fears? What scares you to the core? Halloween is a chance to explore those questions. Lawn and outdoor decor is where you can entice fear before visitors can knock. There are some fun and inexpensive options at any local big box store. For the more adventurous and extreme, let me introduce some options you may find extra frightening.

Start with Scary Retailers

TheHorrorDome.com is a fantastic place to start. TheHorrorDome.com offers an awesome range of products for both inside your home and out. They are at a higher price point but the items are out of the ordinary. A rotting farmer stabbed by a pitchfork or even a giant harvest moon can add a bit more wow to your haunted home. They have props and even animatronics.

Your next scary stop should be www.grandinroad.com. Offering decor year round, www.grandinroad.com offers specialty decorations for the scary moments of the year. Their collection includes: spooky willow trees, haunting ghosts, lifesize ghouls, a pair of ravens, and much more. They are at a mid level price point but the quality is spook-tacular.

There is always a calling from the dead for a cemetery scene when you are decorating your yard. Do not shy away from this creepy detail. You could make your own headstones with plywood and textured paint. However, Spirit Halloween offers outstanding options that are ready for you to install. At spirithalloween.com you can pick up your headstones, cemetery fencing, and rising dead skulls and hands. Do not forget your moss for the top of the plots and to drape on the undead hands since they did dig their way through.

Add to the Scare with Small Details

You are starting to build your oober scary yard scene. There are some small items to be had. Oriental Trading Co. has long been a company that retails party favors on the less expensive end of pricing. At orientaltrading.com you can find the smoke machine and strobe lights to help set the mood. These definitely will add to the eerie feeling but will not break the bank.
A few more fun additions can be found with Costume Supercenter.

CostumeSupercenter.com has more of the small details that can add to the freak-out factor. Small rubber rats, lighted hanging lantern, and writing blood spray are sure to improve on those small details. One rat is scary but for the low price it is worth adding as many as you can stand. There is also a zombie gnome to add to your garden. Cute and scary, of course.

Wrap Up

You have found the parts of your scary scene. Now it is time to put them all together. Let your imagination take control and your fears help lead the way. Set up a haunted forest walk that passes by the cemetery with rising dead reaching for visitors. Lighting the way with hanging lanterns and rats at their feet will certainly add an ambiance of fear. Lead guests to the harvest moon and a bloody greeting. Have fun and a creepy Halloween.
