If you are a parent than you know how difficult it can be to get your children to brush their teeth. Kids love to eat sugar and hate to brush their teeth. So what can parents do in addition to teaching them the importance of brushing to help them maintain a healthy smile? Below you will find a few suggestions on how to naturally keep your child’s gum’s and teeth healthy right on into adult hood.
1. The right diet matters
It’s not just about brushing it’s also about what you give your child to eat on a daily basis. Their diet can do a lot to help ensure that they have a healthy smile, and keep it that way. Teach your children what foods are truly good for them at a young age. Start by lowering the amount of sugar in your child’s diet. Of course there is nothing wrong with them having the occasional piece of candy, but you really don’t want to make sweets an everyday habit. Instead make sure their days are filled with leafy greens, and a lot of foods that contain calcium, and lots of vitamin D.
2. Make your own toothpaste
If you go online you will find a lot of natural toothpaste recipes that you can make yourself right from the comfort of your own home. Most of these natural toothpastes use ingredients such as baking soda, and peroxide which naturally help your teeth. Something I have learned from my own personal experience of using baking soda, and peroxide.
3. Water pik flosser’s
I have also found that buying a water pik to help get the in between areas of the teeth clean. One thing I have learned with kids, is that they do not like to floss. Getting kids to floss properly is often more difficult than getting them to brush. So I have found that a water pik, really helps to get all of the food found in between the teeth out. I often use the water pik once in the morning and once in the evening.
4. Brush right after eating
I have also found that staying on top of kids to make sure your kids brush after each meal also helps. Of course since most are at school, during the day you can only make sure they brush in the morning and in the evening. However making sure this is done properly can really make the difference between your children having healthy teeth and unhealthy teeth.
5. Natural mouth rinse
I have found that a natural mouth rinse such as one that contains aloe vera, can help to get rid of those bad breath bacteria in your mouth. You can also find many of these recipes online.
