Assorted items of choice, like plastic, a headband, a blank ring, or a piece of wood
One of the reasons that people wear jewelry is to add a little sparkle and elegance to an outfit. But it isn’t really necessary to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to wear flashy jewelry. In fact, today’s holographic paper is super shiny and can be used to make sparkling jewelry like no other pieces you’ll find on the market. Make your own holographic necklaces, earrings, and other jewelry, and every time you wear it, you’ll have people’s heads turning.
Holographic contact or adhesive paper is available in so many different colors and designs that it’s possible to coordinate it with every outfit, pair of shoes, or accessory that you have. The holographic jewelry is really easy to make when you use some jewelry-making supplies and/or some common items.
Since you’ll be working with paper, you’ll need something stiffer as a backing for it, and that thing can be a piece of hard plastic, a metal piece, or even a thin piece of cardboard. Cut a piece of plastic from a milk jug or shop at a hardware store for a metal shape; you’ll find many different kinds. Another choice for the backing is a piece of wood, such as a Scrabble tile, or a piece cut from a paint stick.
Cut a piece of holographic paper and stick it to the chosen item. Poke a hole in the item (unless it’s something that already has a hole, such as a metal washer) so that you can attach it to a chain. Slide a jewelry link into the hole and clamp it shut over a link in the chain.
There are other jewelry items that you can create without as much bother – even though it’s not much bother – as the above jewelry pieces. For example, if you cut a piece of holographic paper, and put it on a cuff bracelet, you add extra sparkle, but spend only a few cents. The same goes for a blank ring. Cut a tiny shape of the paper and stick it on the flat top of the ring.
A hard plastic headband makes a flashy choker – but can be worn as a headband – when you cover it with holographic paper. Stick a too-wide piece onto the headband and then trim each side so that it’s right at the edge of the headband. Mount a jewel or other piece to the center of it if you’re making a choker.
Beside jewelry, you can attach holographic paper to belts, purses, hats, and more. Every outfit that you wear will look even more elegant when you wear holographic jewelry and accessories to accent it.
