Acid reflux is something that I have suffered from for a long time and being someone who didn’t want to have to take a pill everyday, I wanted to figure out ways in which I could treat it on my own. In experimenting with different ideas I came up with some easy-to-follow home remedies for acid reflux that will help to get rid of and treat your acid reflux in no time without spending a lot of money to do so.
Eliminate high traces of acidic foods in your diet
The first thing you need to know about acid reflux is that everyone has it just as they do lactose intolerance. As with lactose intolerance, acid reflux effects some more then others and often times medication is needed to help control it. To help eliminate your problems with acid reflux look at your diet and attempt to limit the consumption of or eliminate entirely high acidic foods from your diet. The reason for this is that your stomach has to have a balance of acidity and base within it. If it has too much acid you get acid reflux, which is the bodies reaction to expelling excess acid. Spicy foods also tend to irritate it, so be careful and make sure to consume a base food soon after to balance your stomach acid out.
Drink lots of water and limit coffee and other acidic drinks
If you drink a lot of pop as I once did you will be happy to know that cutting down on pop consumption and upping your water consumption will help to combat acid reflux. The reason for this is that carbonated drinks tend to be very acidic and as a result they upset the balance of your stomach acid. The more water you drink the better your body will be at absorbing and digesting food. This will allow you to eat the spicy foods you enjoy with less of an issue.
Eat lots of fiber
Fiber helps with your overall digestion and I quickly discovered that eating foods that were high in fiber also helped to eliminate the constant problem of acid reflux that I had. When eating fruit, select fruits that are low in acid so that they do not upset the balance of acids inside your stomach.I have found that eating a banana when I feel an episode of acid reflux coming on has helped to calm my stomach and prevent the feelings from occurring. If you like acidic fruits I recommend that you eat them in small portion sizes and drink plenty of water.
Eat dark chocolate
When symptoms of acid reflux began to occur I noticed that consuming small amounts of dark chocolate would alleviate and take away my symptoms. Dark chocolate is good for you in many ways, but it can also help you to get rid of feelings of acid reflux in no time. The chocolate acts as a base to calm down the acid inside your stomach and the enzymes in the chocolate will help with the digestion and absorption of the food you eat. Be careful not to drink milk when consuming dark chocolate as it will prevent your body from properly absorbing the chocolate.
