Romanoff Renovations is a Home Depot At Home Services provider of flooring installation and bathroom remodeling. Established in 1974 and headquartered in Atlanta, GA, Romanoff has twenty-five offices throughout the southeast. Founder and President Doug Romanoff maintains a hands on role in the company, with over 150 employees and hundreds of highly-skilled contract installers working to provide superior craftsmanship and service for the 4,000+ projects performed each week.
Recently, we finished our final remodeling project in our manufactured home in Sevierville, TN. Having replaced the other flooring and remodeling the bathrooms the last of the hideous green carpet was in three bedrooms. I researched carpet installation online to figure approximate cost and questions I needed to know. I eventually purchased Cressbrook 111 sugar and spice carpet at Home Depot. Here’s my review of the carpet purchasing process including total cost and services.
Selecting Home Depot Carpet, Padding and Setting Up Installation
I stopped by Lowe’s first to get an estimate and someone immediately helped me figure cost of $1900+-. This was basic install of a premium carpet/pad, tack strips and said I could save about $400 if I chose a Lowe’s brand carpet. This way I went to Home Depot comfortable enough to make the purchase.
NOTE: I specifically used Home Depot, because I put the purchase on my Home Depot consumer credit card for the one year interest free payments.
I shop Home Depot often, so I was disappointed it took a long time to help me knowing I was there to make a purchase. I have looked at Home Depot carpet samples 100 times, so picking a style wasn’t hard, but I did bring a bunch of 3″x3″ samples home. I’m glad I did, because I later changed my choice.
While at Home Depot I paid $35 for measurements (this amount is subtracted from install cost). The guy doing measurements showed up on time and called ahead. Measurements took about 30 minutes. The following day Home Depot called with final estimates, took payment and placed my order (most carpet takes a few days to get). At this point I told them that I wanted a different carpet color (same brand and quality), she made the change no problem.
Within a few days I received an email stating the carpet arrived and I could set up installation with Romanoff Renovations. I opted to remove the old carpet, so planned it during our seasonal unemployment to insure I got it done. I made quick progress, so called Romanoff Renovations to also change the installation date. Again handled without problems.
There are several styles and grades of carpet and three types of pads. For the warranty and feel of the premium versus the lower quality, I would recommend at least the mid grade. We chose a premium carpet and pad, because it has a lifetime warranty against stains, pet urine, and color fastness etc. We have pets and it is always a problem .
Night Before and Morning of Home Depot Carpet Installation
I’m not sure if Romanoff Renovations does all of Home Depot’s installs, but I appreciate the great communication and professionalism from an outside company. They called two days prior and sent emails the day before and morning of installation. Included was a welcome email with a picture of the lead crew member, his qualifications and contact information.
They called early to let me know approximately when they would arrive. I cleared out the driveway since I wasn’t sure what would be happening. They arrived in one van with two guys and conveniently had precut the carpet saving time and mess at the house.
Work was pretty quick and being in a smaller doublewide the crew helped us move furniture after finishing one room as we had bigger items that had to be moved around. They did a quick vacuum after installation in each room and cleaned as they went. They checked with us on uncertainties and were polite. They had me sign a checklist and were gone in about 4 hours.
Note: Neither of the men spoke great English, but understood me fairly well. I couldn’t tell if communication would be a factor in a complicated situation. They went right to work with almost no questions.
After the Installation and Sale of Home Depot Carpet
The day following installation I again received a phone call and three emails ensuring quality and satisfaction of the carpet installation. I do a pretty good job of inspecting things and other than a lot of carpet fibers around the edges of the rooms it is a great looking and feeling carpet. My master bedroom had two seems, but if I didn’t know where it was I wouldn’t be able to find it. I’m really happy with the color and the price. Of all the home improvements I’ve done, this is one of the cheapest, but most impactful improvements we’ve done. ( No more green trailer carpet)
