Anyone who’s seen the mug shot of Ariel Castro and knows what he’s done for the past 10 years will certainly want to know how tall he is.
Ariel Castro not that Tall
If you tune into CNN enough and watch Anderson Cooper, Erin Burnett and other such shows, it won’t be long before a mug shot of Ariel Castro is shown against a height chart. This man doesn’t even hit 66 inches. This means he’s a tad under 5’6. Repeat: That’s not quite five feet six inches tall. That’s how tall Ariel Castro actually is.
CNN has been repeating the video of Ariel Castro’s bail setting, and he is dwarfed by several men standing nearby, and appears to be only an inch taller than his female defense attorney.
In another CNN segment, a reporter was commenting that he was surprised to find out that Ariel Castro “isn’t that tall,” and added something like, “You’d expect him to be big like a football player, but he’s really only about 5-8.”
The mug shots suggest a heavy-set body. It’s interesting that the reporter assumed from this that Ariel Castro was tall and built like a football player.
The height chart in the mug shot doesn’t lie. The link to this is at the end of this article. Though the Google image doesn’t go all the way up to the 66 inch mark, this is actually clearly shown when this mug shot is aired on CNN.
So take my word for it when I say that his head doesn’t quite line up with the 66 inch mark. By viewing the Google image, you’ll easily be able to infer that Ariel Castro is only around 5-6 tall.
A domestic violence complaint, filed in 2005 in the Cuyahoga county court of common pleas, reports that Ariel Castro severely beat his now-deceased wife whom he eventually divorced (Grimilda Figueroa), and threatened to kill her.
The court documents say that Figueroa filed the protective order on August 29, 2005. This begs two questions:
- 1) How could Figueroa NOT know that he had three hostages in the house?
- 2) Assuming she had to have known this, why didn’t she ever report this to the police? Does this make her an accessory to his heinous crimes? She passed in 2012. If Figueroa were alive today, it’s fair to assume that she’d be facing a lot of vilification for staying silent about the house of horrors.
