Every sales person wants to be exceptional at what they do. You don’t have to hard sell in order to be a good sales person. The key to sales success is to be 100% attentive. Be “in the know”, be observant, and act on what you observe. Follow the tips below to master this skill…
1. Know the product: A good sales person knows what they are selling. A lot of people say that a great salesperson should be able to sell anything-but that is only possible if they are educated about what they are selling in the first place. Do your homework. You must be an expert on the item you are trying to get people to buy. If you don’t know enough about the item yourself, how can you convince someone else to buy it.
2. Be dedicated…to the customer. A mistake that many sales people make is that they are so consumed with making the sale that they forget that they are there to serve the customer as well. You are not just working for yourself and the company-you are also working for the customer. Make eye contact with them, be honest, and share personal testimonials about the product. All of this builds a bond between the two of you. You won’t come off as just an ordinary sales person dealing with an ordinary client. You will come off as a person talking to another person. The two of you should have that kind of chemistry.
3. Listen. Your goal should be to address your customer’s needs and desires. The only way to do this is to ask questions about what they’re interested in. Ask them what they think of the product or if there is any particular product they like. Listen closely. They may like something but also be apprehensive about it as well. It is your job as the sales person to make them feel secure with what you’re selling. The important thing is for you to show them that you actually care about what they think and aren’t just trying to sell them a product.
4. Go the extra mile. Your customer needs to see that you truly are there to help–not just to sell them something and get their money. This is why it is a good idea to give them some useful tips on how to get the best results out of what they purchased from you. They will appreciate this, and this will ensure that they will be satisfied with their purchase. And the more satisfied customers you have, the more success you will have. So always put the customers first. You and your company will benefit in the end.
A great sales person is actually a caring one–one that puts the customer’s needs first and truly enjoys serving them. Any time you focus on the sale, you always miss out on building that bond with the customer that can result in their loyalty. Don’t miss out on that opportunity! Give your customer your best service and it will pay off. I guarantee it.
