If you’re like 75% of American women, you’ve probably developed a few stretch marks at some point in your life. Whether it be from gaining weight, losing weight, giving birth, or growth spurts…Stretch marks are usually a common denominator.
While it’s very important to learn how to accept and embrace your flaws, many women would like to find a way to make their stretch marks a bit less apparent. Or maybe you just want to make sure new ones don’t form!
As someone who has gained over 100 pounds, then lost it all, I’ve tried nearly every stretch mark fading product out there. From DIY treatments, to expensive lotions, I’ve done almost all of it!
The number one form of treatment that seems to be the most common, would be over the counter topical treatments such as lotions, butters, or balms. These products are mainly used for the fading process, and do not completely diminish stretch marks all together. However, once stretch marks are faded to a very subtle hue, they’re exceptionally less noticeable.
My favorite over the counter product for stretch marks is Mederma. After seeing the price tag on this average-sized lotion, I was in shock! Almost 50 dollars for a bottle of lotion that may not even fade my stretch marks? I wasn’t sure if I was sold! However, after doing a lot of thinking, I came to the conclusion that after losing 150+ pounds, I owed it to myself to give it a shot. I spent the money, brought it home, and within only a WEEK, they started to fade! I couldn’t believe I was actually seeing such positive results. Within one month, my pink and purple stretch marks had turned to a paler shade, and were a lot less noticeable!
During pregnancy, I’ve tried to seek out cheaper solutions in avoiding more stretch marks to appear. A friend of mine recommended Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula, and for only 4.99, it was worth a shot. I’ve been using it consistently for about 2 months now, and no new stretch marks have formed. I don’t notice as much fading in my old ones, but that could be due to Mederma already taking care of most of that. Palmer’s, however, gets an A+ from me for preventing new stretch marks to appear!
If you’re looking for an alternative route, you could always try more natural ways in decreasing the appearance of stretch marks. Research has shown that exfoliating and taking Vitamin C supplements have both been proven to fade stretch marks and also aid in preventing new ones.
There are, of course, more extreme measures you can take such as laser surgery…But with the cost of that, many of us can’t afford to try it out! Laser surgery is said to promote a “smudging” effect that causes stretch marks to become a lot less noticeable in the long run.
So while there is no known way to COMPLETELY eliminate stretch marks, utilizing said methods could help them become easier to live with, and prevent new ones from forming.
