Even though we would all probably love to have access to a pool during the summer months, this is not an option for everyone. Especially if you live in an apartment and not a house. So what can you do to make sure you and your children stay as cool as possible during those hot, and humid days of summer. Well before you imagine a huge electric bill, and start to stress over it, try putting some of the following tips to good use.
1. Fun Water Games
Playing some fun water games outside with the kids is a great way to keep everyone cool. You can fill a bucket with water balloons, and let the kids have hours of fun tossing the balloons at each other. Of course with these types of balloons they will not want to avoid getting wet. When you fill the water balloons with water you can make sure the water is ice cool.
That is just one example of a fun water game you could play. I’m sure that with a little forethought you can come up with some fun games to keep cool all on your own.
2. Spicy meals
Believe it or not eating spice foods during the day and help your body to cool itself off. Now remember that there is a difference between spicy food, and food that is just hot. There are many tasty dishes that you can make for your kids during their lunch hour. If your kids are not used to spicy foods you don’t want to make it too hot.
3. Wear the right clothes
Of course when it comes to how the kids dress, you will want to make sure that they dress properly during the summer months. Clothing that is lightweight, and comfortable is best, and don’t forget a hat with a wide brim to keep the sun off their face. Remember that when it comes to the summer months, it’s not about being fashionable, it’s more about being comfortable.
4. Leave the window fans on at night
During the evening hours you will find that the air outdoors is a much cooler. Putting a few window fans in and leaving them in overnight, will help to make the house comfortable. In the morning you will find the house cool and comfortable. If you keep the blinds closed during the day, this will help to keep the hot air out and the cool air in.
5. Freeze some towels
If you have some small hand towels or washcloths, you can wet them down, and place them in the freezer. After about an hour you will have a cool cloth that the kids can place on their face or on their neck. If you have a patio where they can sit in the shade, the towel will really help them cool down. While they are cooling down you can give them some ice water to drink and this will help to keep them cool.
