Block of wood
2 “L” brackets
If people know that you work with tools they often give you tools for holidays, birthdays, and other gift-giving occasions. It’s not surprising, then, that you’ve ended up with more than one set of screwdrivers. That makes it a little crowded in your toolbox, doesn’t it? Take some of them out and you can make a really cool coat rack just for your man cave. You’ll get to build something, use some of your new tools, and create a place for that spare set of screwdrivers to live.
You might be a great carpenter, you might be a so-so woodworker, but you’ll have no problem making an eye-catching, screwdriver coat rack, or an organizer for many different things. You’ll need one or more screwdrivers (several are recommended), a piece of wood, and a couple of cheap brackets.
A section cut off of a 2 x 4 makes the perfect base for your coat rack. Cut a large section for a coat rack that will hold many things; cut a much shorter board to create an organizer for one or two things. You can paint the wood, stain it, or leave it in its unfinished condition.
To attach the screwdrivers to the board, drill holes, and slide one tool into each hole. Start by measuring and marking where each screwdriver will go. Drill through the wood, from the top, through the bottom. Space the holes equally apart and be sure to allow enough room between each screwdriver set so that their handles won’t touch.
“L” brackets are easy to attach and will support the piece of wood as you hang it on a wall. You’ll find the small brackets at any home improvement or hardware store. Screw one end of each bracket to the underside of the wood – at each end – and then screw the other end of each bracket to the wall.
Hang the wooden organizer on a wall and then drop a screwdriver into each hole. All screwdrivers can be the same size, length, and type, or you can use assorted sizes and types of screwdrivers. Hang personal items on each screwdriver to organize a man cave or other guy’s room. The screwdrivers can hold coats, hooded jackets, scarves, suspenders, dog leashes, and so much more.
There are so many things that you can purchase for a man cave but why do that when you can make many of those things yourself. Make more than one screwdriver rack and use one for clothing and accessories, one to hang pots and pans, and one to hold towels in the bathroom.
