Have you ever wondered how to make money off of you favorite video games? If so, this guide is for you.
Making money from playing video games is a new concept that allows a lot of professional and amateur gamers to make a little cash on the side; however, like any other job, it will take hard work and most likely won’t be enough to live on. If you want to make a living, getting a real job or starting a company is your best bet.
Let’s start if the obvious ways. You most likely won’t want to do these as they require lots of time, but it’s good to get them out the way. Game testing isn’t as good as it sounds. It isn’t like the movie Grandma’s Boy. The pay is close to minimum wage, the hours are long, you will be preforming tedious and repetitive tasks over and over looking for the smallest bugs to write up. You also probably won’t be testing any games you like either, so stay clear of game testing unless absolutely needed.
Tournaments and Contests
In South Korea professional gamers are treated like pro football stars; there are even TV shows dedicated to them. Many of theses pros can make six figures every year in Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, StarCraft II and other games in eSports. Be prepared to practice like a football player though; these pros train for hours everyday. Don’t worry if you are not in South Korea. Many contests are still held in the U.S., but the eSports scene is still devolving here, so it is best to stay away from this one too.
Creating Content (Guides and YouTube)
Anyone can do this method, and it doesn’t require too much time either if you have the knowledge. Many people sell game guides (ebooks) to MMORPGs. These books can teach a player how to level faster, make gold or complete a task. Ask yourself if you are skilled enough in the game and starting writing! If you don’t like writing, consider making videos. Instead of writing guides, make a video on how to preform the task on YouTube and monetize (allowing YouTube to put ads on it) it! If you make enough professional content you may become partnered with YouTube allowing you to earn more money and starting making it a full-time job.
Selling Your Stuff
Many players don’t like to work and are lazy — this is where you come in. In MMORPG games like World of Warcraft, EVE Online and Rift, you can sell gold (or the selected game’s currency). If you have a high level character, you can find ways to get gold (can be farming, trading, etc.) and keep doing it. There are many programs that automate this process and you can run multiple accounts at a time to maximize profits. Sell the gold after getting it to other players for real life money. One great example of this is Diablo III. If you play on the higher difficulties you can farm (repeatedly complete) dungeons for items that sell for a couple of bucks on the Auction House. If you have a high level or unique character, you can sell it for hundreds are dollars. If you don’t want to sell your character you can also level up someone else’s character for them. Someone’s laziness = more money for you.
There are many ways to make money off of games; you just have to find the methods. I provided some general methods that work and that I have used but if you want to find the best ones you will have to look yourself. Take the tips I have told you and see how you can make money off of the current game you are playing. I guarantee there is a way.
