Ever wanted to play a warrior with stealth skills or an archer that can mix it up in melee? These are just two options that are available to a warrior-rogue in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Combining warrior and rogue abilities allows you to build a fun and effective character that mixes might and finesse. If you are trying to build a character that combines these specialties, this guide will help you build a powerful warrior-rogue.
Destiny – The warrior-rogue destiny grants you bonuses to melee, ranged, piercing, and stealth attack damage. This long list means that the best way to take advantage of this destiny is to fight with a bow and a fighter melee weapon. The other option is to use a rogue weapon and a fighter weapon. The first option ignores the benefit from stealth attack damage and the second option ignores the benefit from ranged damage.
Weapons – Due to the ability Blade Honing, you should always choose either a longsword or a greatsword as your fighter weapon. For your rogue weapon, a bow is probably the best choice, but daggers also pair well with a greatsword and faeblades pair well with a long sword. If you do pair two melee weapons, you can even use the Harpoon ability to take advantage of some of your destiny bonuses.
Passive Abilities – Your priority on passive skills should always be the Mastery skills during the first tier unless you are using a greatsword or faeblades. Longbow Mastery is especially important as are all other bow skills when they become available, because each skill increases your quiver size at the first rank. If you wield either a dagger or faeblades, also make sure to put ranks in Assassin’s Art. Since rogues are very good at stunning enemies, also make sure to put prioritize putting points in Concussive Force when tier 3 abilities are unlocked.
Sustained Abilities – All three sustained abilities available to warrior-rogues are good, though you may not be comfortable having all three active at once. If you are wielding two melee weapons, Blade Honing is a must buy. Even if you are only using one, it is still very good, but probably not essential. Battle Frenzy is the most critical if you aren’t wielding two melee weapons, because it works with all your attacks and make sure to put points into the Stoneskin upgrade for it when it is available. Envenomed Edge is worth putting ranks into at early levels, even if you don’t use it later, just to add damage to your rogue weapon.
Active Abilities – Stunning abilities will make you very effective. To this end you should prioritize Frost Trap and the upgrade Icy Explosion and Smoke Bomb, since both stun. Also Quake from the warrior tree can stun after get the Aftershock upgrade. With these three abilities you have a plethora of ways to cause stuns and can deal extra damage with your Concussive Force ability. You should probably avoid most poison abilities, but since you have Smoke Bomb, you might as well get the Poison Bomb upgrade when tier 5 abilities are available.
