According to Pew’s Internet and American Life Project, 350 million people worldwide belong to Facebook, one of the most popular social networking sties today. Among the multitude, 20-30% are “power users,” that is, people who are actively engaged in the many aspects and functionality of the site.
But, as active as they are, did you know that many of these Facebook devotees don’t actually write their own status updates? No joke. As you struggle to keep your Facebook page updated and relevant, your close friends and loved ones may be getting a digital boost in crafting clever remarks on their pages. Surprised? So was I. But, after doing a little digging, I learned that cyberspace is jammed-packed with websites offering cool commentary and graphics for your Facebook page.
The Facebook Wall: Where It All Began
To understand this digital phenomenon, you gotta start with the Wall. No, not Pink Floyd’s legendary concept album. I’m talking about Facebook’s Wall. You see, Facebook, one of the most popular online social networking services out there today, revolutionized how someone’s online presence could become a point of real sharing and engagement. The Wall was the vehicle that would connect people with common interests through individual pages, groups and more. What’s the big deal here? Plenty when you consider the millions of people who communicate via Facebook each and every day. The Wall was eventually transformed into a Timeline for personal messages and updates, photos, articles, video clips and more. Today, rich content is broadcast on a Newsfeed in accordance with users’ privacy settings, allowing Facebook friends and groups to better connect, share information, provide feedback and exchange thoughts, ideas, activities, images and events.
Facebook Humor that Hits Home
With these expanded functions, Facebook users scouted around for better ways to raise their individual or group’s profile, increase engagement, and share information. And, so began websites dedicated to helping these active Facebook page developers up their game. These websites are super easy to find in a simple Yahoo!, Google or Bing search. Here are just a few examples of clever Facebook status postings you’ll find on these creative content sites:
- A worm is a pretty disappointing prize for getting up early if you ask me.
- Without coffee, I’m just a really tall 2 year old.
- My new year’s resolution was to lose 30 pounds by summer’s end. I’ve only got 40 pounds to go.
- I’ve never seen a tombstone that read: “Died from not forwarding that text to ten people.”
- Only in math problems can you buy 60 cantaloupes and nobody asks what’s wrong with you.
