Like many people, I will be traveling for the holidays. One of the biggest hassles with travel is deciding what you want to bring and narrowing that down to what will fit in your suitcase. Here are a few tips and tricks that I have learned that will help you make room in your luggage so you do not have to leave a single shirt behind!
Roll Your Clothes
This is a huge space saver. Earlier in the year, I took a weekend trip and to save time at the airport I decided I was only going to bring a carryon. I went during the spring when the weather would swing 25 degrees day to day. That meant I needed a light jacket, sweaters, t-shirts and tank tops. I rolled everything into my carryon, and it fit! I was amazed at how much I was able to bring. The best part is when I got there and unpacked, nothing was wrinkled.
Depot, Depot, Depot
Every time I travel by plane or car, I never take any full size hair or skin care. I save all of my samples and take those to save space. Even after the samples are gone, I save the container so I can transfer product from my full size items to the sample size. If you don’t have any samples laying around, then next time you are at a makeup counter or a large beauty retailer just ask for a few empty sample containers. Usually they will give you a few.
Think outside the box
This next tip is especially useful if you are traveling by plane and have to get all of your liquids into a quart size bag. A cosmetics and bath store I love is Lush: they have shampoo bars, toothpaste tablets and body butter bars. You can also find many DIY recipes online to make shampoo and body lotion bars. Since these are all solid products, they do not have to go into your liquids bag, which helps to free up space for other items.
Pack items that serve multiple Purposes
For clothing, try packing a solid or neutral sweater than can be mix and matched with a few different tops underneath it. Another item I always like to bring is a “statement necklace.” A statement necklace is a bold piece of jewelry that can easily transform the casual shirt you wore earlier into a completely different look for night. A multi-purpose beauty item I always bring with me is a coconut oil. You can use it as a body moisturizer, eye makeup remover, and you can shave with it. Make sure you put it in a plastic bag because it changes from soil to liquid depending on the temperature and could leak.
Using one or all of these tips will help to give you more space and hopefully less headaches when deciding what to pack. Happy travels!
