How to Test Liquid Foundation Makeup

by fat vox

Choosing the right foundation may be the most significant part of a good make up routine. Foundations now come in various forms, and it’s a personal choice if you would go for mousse or tinted, and powder or liquid.

As with any form, it’s best if you’re able to properly test out a liquid foundation. Because of the ease of application, liquid foundation is a popular choice for women especially for their daily use. It glides smoothly on your skin because it’s in liquid form. However, don’t risk looking too pasty and streaky by choosing the wrong color. Follow these steps to properly test liquid foundation make up:

Visit a makeup store, or the cosmetics and grooming section of a department store. For assistance, look for a beauty consultant. Don’t be afraid to ask, after all you’re making a purchase and you wish to make a good choice. There are also other stores where you can personally try on the products using make up stations.

The trick is to choose two or three shades of foundation that you think matches your skin color.

With the use of a clean cotton pad or a make up sponge, dab a bit of the middle shade foundation and apply it on your face. You can apply just a little bit of the foundation onto the base of your jaw. Remember that testing it on your hand is not advisable, as the skin tones on one’s face and hand are different. If you’re not comfortable dabbing your skin with a sample foundation, you can use it on your neck or your chest instead. A word of caution though for those with sensitive skin; you may dab just a little bit of the product to prevent any allergic reaction.

Check if the color blends well with your facial skin tone. See if you can spot visible lines or unevenness in color. A good liquid foundation should have the right consistency and ease of application while providing an even and flawless blend with your natural skin. Remember that lighting is also important. For a genuine match, use makeup mirror lights or natural lighting to judge the results of the freshly applied foundation.

If the shade is not a match, just repeat the process. You’ll be amazed at how many shades of foundation, liquid or other, is available in the market. Try on different brands and shades and soon you’ll find one which will give you perfect coverage.
However, you can also try to blend the different colors to get the perfect shade for your face. The indicator for getting the perfect shade is when your made up face matches your neck’s color under natural light.

Remember to always keep your liquid foundation tightly closed and store it in a cool, dry area. Get the most out of your basic make up item by not letting it solidify. Now that you’ve picked the perfect foundation, make a note of its shade number for good measure.
