After moving away from my childhood hometown, I could not find a Hardee’s that had that fabulous sausage gravy. I complained so much that someone actually went to talk to the Hardee’s manager and was able to purchase the gravy mix in bulk to ship to me. So now I have Hardee’s gravy any time that I get to craving it! I mean, how can each and every Hardee’s not have the famous gravy and biscuits? I found many who had the same biscuits and no gravy! That is a sin! When I went back to my hometown, my first stop was to the Hardee’s for a gravy and biscuit. They are that good! Ask for gravy at any other type of restaurant and you will likely get that thin, barely edible turkey brown gravy for your biscuits.
Customer service:
The service was great, so that is what mattered most! Efficient fast lines so we got our food quickly inside or at the drive-through window. Our orders were prepared correct each time, even with specifications of a plain burger with no mustard or ketchup. The staff wore clean uniforms besides one young gal who looked as if she spent the day wiping tables with her apron.
Inside of the restaurant:
Some places have been very small with few tables inside, but the restrooms and dining rooms were clean enough. One specific restaurant did have a very smelly bathroom that looked to be clean. It smelled like urine and made me wonder if people had been using the floor to go. I always see staff wiping down tables and cleaning up. Customers eat and then deposit their trash in receptacles by the door. The drive-through area goes around the building to the window where you pay and get your order. At least two registers going at a time makes quick moving lines inside.
The food:
I have already talked a little about the famous gravy and biscuits at Hardee’s. The biscuits are light and fluffy and used to be bigger than my hand!! Now the biscuits are made smaller, but are still as soft and fluffy as ever! I remember many a day where just a jelly butter biscuit would be a wonderful breakfast for me. Later on, they stopped buttering the biscuits and would give you a pat of butter to add yourself. The biscuits are made fresh from scratch each morning at Hardee’s. Gravy is not offered in most locations as I found out the hard way. The gravy is a bit spicy with small chunks of sausage broken up in it, just the right thickness and never thin! It is perfect every time. I have never gotten old gravy; it always tastes freshly-made with no clumps.
We loved breakfast at Hardee’s more than anything and usually only went to Hardee’s for breakfast. The bad thing is that they do not serve breakfast all day. You have to be there by 10:30 a.m. (times may vary by location) to get any breakfast item. I hate the styrofoam plates that they have when you order a breakfast plate. My plastic fork would poke a hole in it and my gravy would go everywhere on my lap! For breakfast, you have many choices: omelettes, croissants, many breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, bacon, burritos, sausage, and biscuits. For a dessert biscuit, try the cinnamon raisin one. This tastes like a cinnamon roll with yummy cream cheese icing. The hash browns here are formed like small circles.
For lunch and dinner, you have a variety of different burgers to choose from in different sizes, all the way up to a 2/3 pound hamburger (I can’t imagine!), chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, and ham sandwiches. Kids’ meal options are burgers and chicken strips. The side options include curly fries and regular fries. Dessert items include an apple pie that is very hot, so wait a sec before handing it over to the kids! Also, the shakes are very tasty at Hardee’s, using real fruit!
The drinks:
Sodas, coffee, tea, bottled water, shakes, malts, smoothies, orange juice, hot chocolate, and milk are on the menu. What I loved about the shakes at Hardee’s is that they have special flavors at times like peach in the summer and use real fruit in the milk shakes. Not long ago, they started adding whipped cream on top of their shakes.
My final say on Hardee’s? Make it a great day and stop there for breakfast. Really the only things that could make breakfast at Hardee’s better would be if they delivered it to your door and served breakfast all day. The prices, especially for breakfast biscuits, are cheap enough for anyone to afford! A piece of heaven in a biscuit that is what you will find at your local Hardee’s.
