Gift cards are worth far more than face value. They make shopping easier for the giver, and they provide numerous choices for the recipient. They are practical and ideal for all concerned. However, they might not seem very substantial, at least not in a tangible way. Since they are thin and small, they are not usually wrapped like other presents. For some they take the fun out of giving. Instead of being wrapped, they usually end up in greeting cards or special holders that really are not very special. They are comparable to monetary gifts, but they can be presented in much more creative ways. Consider these ideas for making gift card boxes with a butterfly theme, and give the girls on your list something lovely to open and save. It is an extra item that can be used in countless new ways.
Necessary Supplies
You do not have to buy gift card boxes, at least not the overpriced ready-made varieties that are not at all unique. It is difficult to find a butterfly theme let alone anything that would be worth reusing for other purposes. When making holders that are embellished with butterflies you will need Altoids tins, scrapbook paper in a pretty floral pattern, strong double-sided craft tape, dimensional butterfly stickers, clear nail polish that contains fine iridescent glitter, strong clear-drying adhesive, scissors and faux gems with flat backs. Use the photo as a guide when selecting your materials, but keep in mind that anything is possible when making gift card boxes in a butterfly theme.
Procedure
Begin by cutting out pieces of scrapbook paper of the appropriate size to separately wrap the lid and the rest of the container. Apply double sided tape to the metal before adding the paper. Neatly wrap each section as you would wrap a special gift. Keep the paper smooth and tight, and neatly crease the edges and corners. The interior edges can look much neater with the addition of scrapbook paper that has been cut to perfectly fit the bottom of the container as well as the inside of the lid.
After the Altoids tin is completely covered inside and out with scrapbook paper, decorate it with a dimensional paper butterfly. Place it in the center or in a corner. Decorate the flowers with faux gems. Attach them to the centers to add dimension and glitz. Coat the petals with clear glittered nail polish. Consider making gift card boxes with a butterfly theme for all of the females on your gift list. Since they can reuse the decorative container, it will be a gift that will keep on giving long after the card is gone.
