The Republican Party, or specifically the Tea Party wing, is trying to disenfranchise anyone who disagrees with them. They have come to realize that their views cannot win in an intelligent debate so they have resorted to rigging elections and throwing temper tantrums.
The mistake everyone makes is that the Tea Party is not just racist or misogynist, it is both and so much more. The main thing they are is sore losers, and they will do anything to make sure their minority view controls all discourse.
They lose the presidency, again, to the most dangerous and hated (according to them) president in history, and they fail twice to take control of the Senate.
Why? Because Senators and Presidents need to speak for a plurality of citizens.
The only thing they can win is the House, because they control the redistricting that creates the homogeneous districts they need to win. Moreover, they only win in off year elections when fewer people vote so their fanatics are the only ones voting.
They are attempting nothing less than ideological genocide. An attempt to set up a new aristocracy, an oligarchy where they decide what is best for the masses.
“…kick the Democrats in the Butt…”
Wednesday night (October 23, 2013) Jon Stewart aired an interview piece done by Aasif Mandvi . The piece was brilliant in and of itself, touching on the Supreme Court decision to remove pieces of the Civil Rights act…and some great ideas on how to suppress republican voter turnout.
It also showed how good investigative reporting (even when done in jest) could turn over things you were not even looking for. During the piece, Aasif Mandvi interviewed North Carolina GOP executive committee member Don Yelton . The aim was to try and show that the Voter ID law was a racist law, but what Mandvi got was the admission that it wasn’t really racist, it was about stopping everyone who votes for the democratic party from being able to vote.
Yelton stated that it would “…kick the Democrats in the butt…” After admitting that the amount of voter fraud that occurred yearly was not enough to sway any election (2 out of 60,000 votes in one county), he stated who the law would affect the most: lazy college students, some whites and “…if it hurts a bunch of lazy Blacks that want the government to give them everything, so be it.” So he may be racist, but not the law. The law is about disenfranchising anyone who disagrees with the narrow republican agenda: College Students, some whites, and other minorities; not just blacks.
See not racist, just cheating.
Yelton was forced to resign, the day after this aired, amid protestations that he didn’t speak for all NC Republicans. Yeah, because he spoke truthfully about what they were doing rather than hide behind the rhetoric that it is about stopping the nonexistent scourge of “Voter Fraud”.
Law Abiding Married Women Cannot Vote in Texas
A sitting District Court judge, Judge Sandra Watts, was stopped at her polling place because her driver’s license had her maiden name as her middle name. As reported by the website Raw Story (http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/10/23/harsh-new-texas-voter-id-law-almost-blocks-woman-judge-from-voting/ ), her voter registration card had her actual middle name. Because of this she was questioned and made to fill out an affidavit and/or a provisional ballot, which means her vote would be under review to decide whether she was who she said she was and whether it should count. Even though her form of ID and registration card have been fine for the last 20 years.
The catch to this is that the practice of using your maiden name as your middle name on your driver’s license was mandated in 1964, so if you are a married woman in Texas and you follow the law, you may not be able to vote in Texas. At the very least you will have to spend more time trying to vote. This makes it more difficult for working mothers who have a premium on their time, and by the way skew more Democrat than Republican. Go figure.
People need to recognize this is what the Tea Party is attempting and react. All concerned citizens need to educate themselves and get out to vote in every election not just the “big ones”. Winning the little ones are what is giving them the power to hold our government hostage and rewrite the voting laws to give them more power. If we do not vote in every election and stand up to this, eventually we won’t be able to vote anymore and we cede our laws and country to the new oligarchy.
We will have no one to blame but ourselves, because by then, there will be no one in our government left to listen.
