Some stress is in the form of migraines caused by a deficiency in magnesium. These symptoms can also cause. You can increase your magnesium levels and reduce your stress levels by eating a cup of spinach. Eat it raw in a salad or sauté some in a little butter and enjoy a healthy snack that will alleviate your stress.
Apricots are a wonderful fruit that is rich in magnesium. Magnesium is a mineral that our bodies need. Eating an apricot will ease the stress you are feeling and relax your muscles naturally.
Turkey contains L-tryptophan which is an amino acid. This amino acid triggers serotonin which is released into the blood stream. It causes a chemical reaction in the brain that transmits messages to the body. Those messages give the body a feeling of tiredness, sleepiness, calmness and relaxation.
Sweet potatoes provide your body with the carbohydrates and natural sugars your body needs. They are packed with beta-carotene as well as other vitamins and fiber. Desserts are the most comforting of foods to eat when a person is stressed out. But, and it is a big but, they aren’t the best choices to pick when stressed. The excess sugar will give your system a jolt and increase your blood pressure which can turn against you and make you feel worse. Yes, you will feel better enjoying that candy bar, slice of cake, pie or bowl of ice cream but they don’t act in the body the same as the other foods described above to alleviate stress.
Remember that almonds, pistachios and walnuts are also great snack choices. They too will help your immune system, lower blood pressure, provide vitamins and minerals and keep your stress at a tolerable level.
