Today’s Interview is with Hallie Jordan. Halle has launched her online magazine named Womentertain. Womntertain is about the women who shake up Hollywood. Ms. Jordan is also an actress and her credits can be found here.
Justin Samuels: What inspired you to create Womentertain?
Hallie Jordan: I witnessed many of my friends pack up and abandon their dreams due to a lack of encouragement and direction. After learning to deal with difficult situations in my own career, I decided that it was time to take a stand to encourage women of all genres of entertainment to keep pushing forward. Womentertain will provide just that. Its a place for girls who work, or want to work in the entertainment industry. At Womentertain women can read up on inspiring women who have already paved their own way, and help them to keep pushing forward in their own careers.
JS:What is it like interviewing Sarah Finn, the casting director behind the Avengers and other hit movies?
HJ: It was an honor to get to interview her. At first, I didn’t understand the significance of it. At the time, I was still in school and speaking to anyone and everyone who would give me inside on how the industry works before graduating. I had gone onto IMDB pro, looked at the casting directors for my favorite movies and sent out a bunch of emails with hopes that one of them would reply. Sarah Finn was the first. She is honestly the nicest, most caring women I have met in this town. While she does deal with major movies and celebrities, she is down to earth and pays attention to everyone that walks into her office. Her interview really helped me with my move to LA after graduation, and I hope I get to work with her in the future.
JS: Do you feel that women have made major progress in behind the scenes roles in Hollywood?
HJ: While women are taking on more and more roles behind the scenes in Hollywood, I still find that the industry is run mostly by men. Women are still expected to take on roles as interns, make up artists, stylist, script supervisors, and office workers. The amount of female producers, writers, and directors, in relation to male producers, writers, and directors, is staggering. When looking for women to interview for womentertain, It’s always a catch when I find the contact info of a female on the movies that I love. It would be nice to see women taken more seriously in major roles when it comes to major movies and television shows.
JS: Is it difficult to maintain the site and act?
The two have been working simultaneously and in fact, womentertain is helping my acting career. This is an industry of connections and as I interview amazing women and learn their stories, I am beginning to become friends with them. In turn, when I go in for an audition or put something online, they already know who I am and what I’m about. Acting is and always will be my first love and focus, but womentertain has certainly helped me to find my voice and encourage my peers to do the same.
JS:Is one of Womentertain’s goals to facilitate support among women wishing to enter the industry, particularly behind the scenes?
HJ: Womentertain’s goals are to facilitate support among women working both in front of the screen and behind the scenes. Regardless of what direction they are coming from, the entertainment industry makes receiving criticism a focal point in all areas. While it is hard to get ahead in this industry for a reason, women should be able to push forward no matter what. I believe that women need to support each other and their work together to active success, no matter what area they are coming into. That’s what my sites goals are.
JS: What can we expect coming up from the future of Womentertain? Do you have any other projects we should be on the lookout for?
HJ: As I continue to build content and create helpful categories, I hope that womentertain will reach a greater audience. I want to feature as many casting directors, producers, actors, musicians, etc as I can, so that one day you will be able to type your favorite professional’s name into the search bar and find what they have to say. If interested in being writer, please contact me directly. As far as other projects, I have a couple coming up. I do an LA video diary which can be found on Youtube, produce sketches with my improv team “Ladies like tea” (also can be found on youtube), perform in plays all around town, and have two pilots coming up as well as a web series. Watch out for more things on my IMDB.
