On January 12, 2014 Jennifer Lawrence earned a Golden Globe for her role as Rosalyn Rosenfeld in American Hustle . This was Lawrence’s second Golden Globe.
To commemorate Lawrence winning another Golden Globe, I have listed her top five films.
In this film, Lawrence plays a character based on Cynthia Marie Weinberg, a young woman who is struggling to keep a relationship with her husband (played by Christian Bale). Although Lawrence had a relatively small role, she has been nominated for and won several awards for her part. Along with winning a Golden Globe, she has won awards from the National Society of Film Critics, Denver Film Critics Society, and the Oklahoma Film Critics Circle. She is expected to receive an Oscar nomination.
The Hunger Games
Lawrence has gained much fandom through her role as Katniss Everdeen in the first of four films based on The Hunger Games book. She received critical acclaim for her performance. Some of the critics who gave her positive reviews were Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times and Simon Reynolds of Digital Spy.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Along with receiving kudos for the first movie, Lawrence also gained respect as an actress for her part in the second film. Film critic Stephanie Zacharek commended the young actress, “(Lawrence) is both on fire and in the process of becoming, and it’s magnificent to watch.” Peter Travers of Rolling Stone also gave a similar review, “Pop-culture escapism can be thrilling when dished out by experts. Katniss is a character worth a handful of sequels. And Lawrence lights up the screen. You’ll follow her anywhere.”
Silver Linings Playbook
The Golden-Globe winning actress gave her best performance so far in the 2012 film Silver Linings Playbook . Lawrence was spellbinding in her role as a woman whose husband recently passed away, and is trying to figure out her life again. She and costar Bradley Cooper are great together as dance partners for a competition that helps bring both of them a sense of hope for the future. The film received many Oscar nominations, and helped Lawrence win her first Oscar.
Another fine performance by the wonderful starlet was in Winter Bone . This film, which came out in 2010, was about a seventeen-year-old character (Lawrence) who needs to take care of her desolate family. Lawrence went on to receive an Oscar nomination, but was a runner-up to Natalie Portman for her role in Black Swan .
It is interesting to note that Lawrence is only 23-years-old, but has already received two Golden Globes and an Oscar win. Frankly, I believe that she is turning out to be the next Meryl Streep in regards to turning in award-winning performances. It would not surprise me if she even finishes her acting career with more Oscars than Streep, who currently has three.
