Today’s interview is with filmmakers/actresses Johanna Rae and Annabella Gutman. Together Johanna and Annabella star in a documentary “How to Fail in Hollywood.” Check out Johanna’s Twitter and Facebook fan page, and Annabella’s Twitter and Facebook page.
Justin Samuels: What inspired you to do How to Fail? Did you guys come up with the idea, or was it the film’s director?
Johanna Rae and Annabella Gutman:We realized how many people come to Hollywood to make it and deal with similar situations. We decided to document the process of making it in Hollywood with the day to day challenges and share it with the world. The three of us Annabella , Director Richard Lowry and I all came up with the idea as a team, and we just went for it.
JS:The title appears to be self explanatory. Can you tell us what the film is about?
JR and AG: Fail in Hollywood and Kill the Dream Genre is a documentary comedy. A comedy of errors of two actress inspiring to launch their film production company with bizarre comic results .
JS: How is the film distributed? Where can audiences see it?
JR and AG: Currently the film is available on line on our website. We also have interest in getting a TV deal as well on this particular project .
JS: What were some important things you learned while filming this?
JR and AG: We learned never to count on others. Do let money be an issue or hurdle. Also you need patience as well for when things go wrong. When things don’t go as you wanted them to go, there are other and better opportunities out there as long as you are focused on your goals. Never ignore any opportunity or situation no matter how small or big, because you just never know. You do not need to listen to every single persons opinion for your intuition is truly the best tool you have. Most importantly stay hungry and never give up to you make it to the top.
JS: Did you ever get financing for your production company?
JR and AG: Currently that is still the goal and what the TV deal would be documenting. We have several projects ready for production, and looking for investors per film or to the company.
JS: Do you two have any other upcoming projects you’re working on? If so, what?
JR and AG: Yes we have three films a horror/thriller, crime/thriller, and comedy/action that we are looking for the funds to produce as well as act in. We also have several projects from other productions companies we are considering co-starring in. We are always open for new opportunities to work with other directors to act in their films and projects as well.
