It was a big baby weekend for Kim Kardashian, as the reality star had her baby shower and revealed the sex of her first child with Kanye West (it’s a girl!) on the season premiere of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”
While the elaborate baby shower invitation recently made news (the invite came as a real music box that featured a spinning ballerina dancing to Kanye’s song “Hey Mama”), omg! had the details on the Beverly Hills breakfast bash, which included 100 of the couple’s closest friends like NeNe Leakes, Nicole Richie, Kimberly Stewart, and Kelly Osbourne.
According to People, all of the women from the Kanye’s side of the family were also at the garden-themed brunch, and guests were gifted with wreaths of baby’s breath for their hair. The menu included a traditional breakfast buffet and omelet station, as well as cotton candy, lollipops, strawberry shortcake, and mimosas.
While the guests traveled light (a source said in lieu of gifts, the couple “asked for donations to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago”), the Kardashian sisters dressed as garden goddesses for the flower-friendly event. But it wasn’t all girl talk: Kardashian men Scott Disick and Lamar Odom attended, as did Kanye, of course.

In April, Jessica Simpson had a Tom Sawyer-themed baby shower that featured checkered tablecloths, vintage baby bottles, a banjo player, and Southern comfort food like pigs in a blanket and grilled cheese. But it may have been the fishing booth that was the biggest surprise of the day. A behind the scenes video for the event revealed that guests could “fish” for their party favors, which included OPI nail polish, lip gloss, and condoms — because as party planner Mindy Weiss explained, “This baby was a surprise for Jessica and Eric!”
In 2007, Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott’s first baby was celebrated with an all-blue themed party for 50 at Elixir Tonic & Tea in West Hollywood. According to People, the bash boasted amaryllis in turquoise vases, blue glass lanterns, and a menu of tuna melts and mini corn presented on blue Etch-a-Sketch trays. In addition, the dessert menu was all blue (blueberry popsicles, anyone?), but the guests certainly weren’t blue when they received parting gifts that included items like a $600 pearl bracelet and a plush baby blanket.
In 2007, Nicole Richie followed the yellow brick road to motherhood when she and longtime love Joel Madden celebrated the impending arrival of their baby with a “Wizard of Oz”-themed baby shower. In Style dished that event guru Mindy Weiss incorporated ruby slipper centerpieces, a yellow brick road lined with candy, and music from the classic 1939 movie into the party plan, which was based on Richie’s favorite movie.
Reality star Kristin Cavallari had a “Hills’ style baby shower in 2012. According to E Online, the posh party took place in the Hollywood Hills backyard of Jewelry designer Pascal Mouawad and featured plenty of pampering for the partygoers, including mani/pedi stations. Guests sipped mixed tropical fruit cocktails and noshed on a candy “bar” stocked with sweet treats and a three-tiered cake. And yes, most of Kristin’s pals from her MTV reality show past were in attendance, making it a mini-“Hills” reunion.
And in 2011, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon welcomed their twins, Monroe and Moroccan, with a lavish pink and blue baby shower. The setting was the Conservatory Grill in Beverly Hills, where the elegant eatery was decorated with pink roses and blue hydrangeas, as well as pink and blue balloons. The menu included gourmet pizzas, appetizers, and Mariah’s very own champagne, Angel, according to Life & Style. There was also a gift table — 6 feet long — but Mariah’s favorite gift was a handmade book that included well wishes, poems, and baby stories from her fans from more than 50 countries.
