Political leaders are defending the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) by pointing to the fact that millions of Americans can now get healthcare coverage. True as this might be, the federal government has no business ruining the healthcare of the majority for the benefit of the minority. This is a gross democratic injustice of grand proportions.
Obamacare has problems but look at the bright side!
During the weekend political shows in mid November, Democratic supporters of the law took to the airwaves to defend it. House Minority Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a strident supporter of Obamacare, kept pointing to the fact that once key benefits kick in, Americans will forget about the malfunctioning healthcare.gov website. Oh, and perhaps millions of Americans who were told by her, the President, and many other Democrats that they could keep their plan would forget losing their insurance too.
Democrat Senator from New York, Kirsten Gilibrand, spoke of how millions of women were no longer being discriminated against by insurance companies for being female due to the healthcare law. This was such a lovely sentiment.
Supporters of the healthcare law are truly amazing. Confronted with facts, they avoid them and point to positive things. But in their support of Obamacare, they reveal a tremendously dangerous ideology.
So I have to pay for someone’s birth control? Since when?
Insurance companies have to spread the risk of their insured. That’s how it is supposed to work. But President Obama and the Democrats, while arguing that the United States needed to insure the uninsured, decided to transform the entire healthcare system.
According to the Washington Times, premiums and costs have to cover mental services, female reproductive care, and those who cannot afford insurance.
The Democrats have transformed the healthcare system of this nation into a wealth distribution scheme. In the same breath, they have eliminated choices from people.
Now, people who were perfectly content with their insurance may lose it or have their premiums and deductibles increased. We are subsidizing the health and behavior of our fellow Americans.
This is not what our government is supposed to do
Our government has gotten very good at redistributing the money of its citizens and reducing our freedom. Through the tax code with its many credits and benefits, to social security, the stench of collectivism is overwhelming.
What was once the American spirit of individual achievement and responsibility has become a national collectivism. We are now supposed to fund 99 weeks of unemployment, healthcare for all, support families with a child tax credit.
This weekend I read Larry Winget’s Grow A Pair. The best selling author and popular public speaker confronts this attitude of reliance on others. He scolds Americans for being so reliant on the federal government and electing officials who facilitate that reliance. His book inspired this article and brought me back to my American roots.
Americans used to believe responsibility fell onto the individual, family, friends, local community, state, and then the federal government. For many, that pyramid has reversed with people looking to the federal government for help for a hangnail.
Let Reverse it and let it begin with me
The time has come for an American awakening. The disaster that is Obamacare should stir every American. We are witnessing what happens when we don’t take responsibility for ourselves and elect leaders who have no faith in the people.
This is America. I don’t expect my fellow Americans to pay my bills or provide for my needs and wants. That’s my job. So don’t expect me to pay for yours, even your healthcare. This is the land of the free – not free healthcare.
