Only something like 10% of the United States population is left handed. You may not realize that many presidents have been left handed celebrities in the last century. Before 1929 there was no record of which presidents were left handed. But since then it has something that has become quite an anomaly. Maybe it has just been a coincidence or maybe left handed people have a thirst for power. We may never know but here are the left handed presidents since 1929.
There is not much to say about Herbert Hoover. He is probably best known for the dam in his name out west. Only being president for 4 years it would appear the public were not very impressed with this man left handed or not.
Truman is undoubtedly best known for being the man to give the go ahead on the release of the atom bombs over Japan. At the time it was obviously a very controversial decision. Unfortunately Truman got to see the end of World War II and the beginning of the Cold War all in his 8 years as president.
George H.W. Bush
Bush got to see the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union dissolve during his four years as president. He much less controversial that his right handed son George W. Bush. To date he is also the oldest surviving U.S. president.
Depending on who you ask Clinton may be one of the best left handed presidents of the last century. In his time in office the United States economy prospered and no major conflicts were observed. He ran into trouble with his public image, but he still has many fans throughout the United States.
Our current president is also left handed. Obama has not yet cemented his legacy in the political world but it is obvious he has some work to do if he wants it to be positive. The U.S. is more in debt that it has ever been and no signs of improvement are in sight. It will be up to Obama and Congress to make something happen.
There have also been two presidents, Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford, who claimed to be ambidextrous. But as a left handed person we do not want to claim anyone who tries to play on both sides of the fence. It is very interesting that since 1929 we have only had two less left handed presidents as right handed ones. It may be just a coincidence but it is a very interesting fact none the less.
