Miley Cyrus Wanted Topless VMAs Performance: Other Times She’s Stripped Down

by fat vox

Twerking isn’t Miley Cyrus’s only shtick — the former “Hannah Montana” star also loves to get topless.

According to Us Weekly, the “Miley: The Movement” MTV documentary that aired on October 2 featured a crazy moment between Miley and Britney Spears. The pop stars were discussing Miley’s upcoming MTV Video Music Awards performance when a worried Brit-Brit asked, “You’re not going to be topless onstage, are you?” Miley responded by saying, “I tried but I don’t think MTV’s going to allow it.”

But don’t feel too sorry for Miley. She didn’t get to doff her top on TV, but she did manage to twerk her way to pop culture infamy. And not getting her way at the VMAs hasn’t stopped her from getting topless elsewhere.

V Magazine

Back in May, Miley Cyrus shot a few topless photos for her V Magazine feature. She also warned the world of the wildness to come by saying, “I’m going to be different, I’m going to do what I want to do. I chopped my hair and bought a pair of Docs and never looked back.”

“Wrecking Ball”

Miley showed the VMAs producers what they missed out on by wearing nothing but that pair of Docs in her “Wrecking Ball” music video. She also channeled Sinead O’Connor with an up-close face shot reminiscent of the Irish singer’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” music video. However, Sinead was not impressed with Miley’s homage or her naked bod. “I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos,” O’Connor wrote in an open letter to Miley. “It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether it’s the music business or yourself doing the pimping.” Unfortunately, Miley might misconstrue this message by taking it as a compliment that she’s “Big Pimpin'” like Jay Z.

Rolling Stone

Miley Cyrus continued to take a wrecking ball to her old Disney star image by appearing topless with her tongue out on the cover of Rolling Stone. During her interview with the magazine, she explained her current love of wearing next-to-nothing by saying that she also hated clothes as a kid. “I’m still kind of a semi-nudist, because I never had clothes on,” she revealed.

“Bangerz” Cover Art

And Miley got topless yet again for an alternate cover for her “Bangerz” album. The deluxe version of the album comes with three additional songs, including “Hands in the Air (feat. Ludacris). However, it’s a good thing that Miley doesn’t have her hands in the air for the cover art — she’s using her arm to keep the photo from being rated R.

Terry Richardson Photo Shoot

Since famed photographer Terry Richardson directed “Wrecking Ball,” is it really any surprise that he talked Miley into posing for a topless and partially-nude photo shoot? She even shows off one of her breasts in one photo. But to be fair, she’s not technically topless there since she’s wearing a see-through shirt.

So what do you think is worse: Miley’s twerking or her love of going topless?
