While searching online for a movie to attend this past weekend, as a Christian, I was pleased to find, “I’m in Love with a Church Girl.” This is a faith-based movie and inspired by a true story! Most critics gave the movie a negative review, no surprise there.
After seeing “I’m in Love with a Church Girl” on Saturday, October 19, I say it is a must-see for everyone (Christians and non-Christians). It is a refreshing movie about dating relationships, love, tough decisions, and God! What a great feeling to go to a movie that contained no nudity, no cursing, and only a hint of violence, necessary to tell this story accurately. Best of all, “I’m in Love with a Church Girl” teaches how to find salvation and redemption!
The main character is Miles Montego, played by Jeff “Ja Rule” Atkins. He has everything anyone could want, including a big beautiful home, a lot of money, expensive cars, and women, yet he was not happy. All the material possessions he has gained are from money made as a high-level drug trafficker. I felt great compassion for Miles as the movie reveals he is now retired from that position and is trying to make legal money as a concert promoter. Several “friends” had worked for him, and they are still into drug dealing. Miles shows that he is capable of compassion, as he takes care of them throughout the movie.
In addition, the FBI is watching Miles every move and is trying to find and arrest him. They did not know or believe that Miles is truly trying to change his life. In the end, they will learn the truth.
Mile’s hardest struggle comes after he meets a Christian girl, Vanessa (Adrienne Bailon), the woman of his dreams! It is love at first sight for both of them! However, they take it slow as they get to know each other. Vanessa is a great role model in this movie for teens in a dating relationship, as she, at no time falters in her Christian belief that sex is appropriate only for married couples. This is true to God’s teaching, and Vanessa is not too shy to share her beliefs with Miles. She is instrumental in leading Miles to Jesus Christ. He surrenders his life to Christ, and his life heads in a new direction that I will not divulge. It will be a surprise!
There are more sub stories in the movie, as Vanessa and Miles meet both sets of parents. This movie is not all serious. It does provide laughter and joy, in addition to the pain and struggle. Overall, it is a feel-good movie!
I do not want to give away any more details about the movie. I want you to view it for yourself and be blessed!
