Among the many aspects of American culture that the entire month of October is set aside to commemorate and observe is pizza. National Pizza Mont h allows you to celebrate throughout October in any way you see fit that gives one of Americans’ favorite dishes its due respect. That could mean eating 31 different types of pizzas in October. Or it could be setting aside at least a few days of the month to enjoy some of the most memorable appearances by pizza in the movies.
Do the Right Thing
How could you possibly enjoy a movie marathon during National Pizza Month without including “Do the Right Thing” after all? Here is a movie custom built for watching during National Pizza Month. Many scenes take place right there inside Sal’s Pizzeria. The pizzeria is a vital element in driving forth the narrative of “Do the Right Thing” to its explosive finale. Few movie Hollywood has ever produced have placed pizza at the forefront of plot in the way that this Spike Lee movie does, making it so totally appropriate for National Pizza Month that not watching “Do the Right Thing” during October would seem kind of wrong
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
While pizza is not exactly central to the narrative thrust of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” there is no denying that it plays a major role in one of the most memorable and funniest scenes in the movie. If National Pizza Month was made for anyone, it was made for high school students, many of whom could probably subsist for a very long time by eating nothing but pizza. The scene in question is also a fantasy come true for many high school students. Imagine having a pizza delivered in the middle of class! That would be the holy grail for many during National Pizza Month.
E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
One of the most heartbreaking scenes in movie history for pizza lovers everywhere should provide you with a deeper appreciation for the fragility of your favorite food during National Pizza Month. Remember early in the film when all the guys are over for a game of Dungeon’s & Dragon and they order pizza? As the youngest boy, Elliott is sent outside to wait for the pizza delivery guy and wouldn’t you just know that the pizza arrives at almost exactly the same time as that alien? Elliott’s first encounter with the mysterious visitor from another planet leads to fear which leads to running away which leads to dropping the pizza box which leads to stomping on the pizza box which leads to a wasted pizza. Which is something that should never be allowed to happen during National Pizza Month.
