The 2013 MTV Movie Awards took place on April 14 and “The Avengers” won big for the night, taking the Best Movie award as well as the Best Villain honors for Tom Hiddleston and the Best Fight award for the Avengers battle with Loki. Overall, it was an almost expected big night for the big Marvel movie as the MTV awards has always veered towards public opinion rather than critical acclaim, making them a more popular awards ceremony for many fans.
Another big reason the MTV Movie Awards is so great to watch is that Hollywood brings out some heavy hitter trailers and special looks at some of their bigger geek friendly movies. Here is a look at three movies that got some special attention.
“Man of Steel”
The new Superman reboot, “Man of Steel,” got a nice viral video shown during the commercial break of the MTV Movie Awards and it was all kinds of cool. The “Man of Steel” viral video showed a static screen with words barely visible in the background. The words spelled out “You Are Not Alone” which is the typical quote when it comes to aliens, which of course Superman is. Then Michael Shannon delivers the dialog as General Zod as he tells earth that we are harboring an alien wanted on his planet and we need to turn him over. He then tells Kal-El to surrender or earth will pay the price. Check out the “Man of Steel” viral video here.
“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”
The biggest event of the night for many fans was the unveiling of the “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” trailer. Liam Hemsworth, one of the stars of the movie came out to introduce it with the “Catching Fire” symbol in flames behind him. The trailer shows people not familiar with the books that this movie is more than just the battle games from the first one, as the revolution is in full view here. We also see President Snow considering killing Katniss and his new advisor Plutarch Heavensbee talking him out of it. Check out the “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” trailer here.
“Iron Man 3”
The final big video was much shorter, but just as cool. An “Iron Man 3” clip was shown during the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. In this clip, we see what happens after Mandarin blasts Tony Stark’s home from the original trailer. We see Tony summoning the Iron Man armor and then realizing when it is on that he has gone off line and he starts to fall, but not before blasting one of the helicopters out of the sky. There was also a trailer shown in one of the commercial breaks that showed a bit of the Extremis villain Iron Man faces on the movie as well.
