Siblings, wait that’s a little too generic so let’s try sisters. Growing up with one can be the best thing in the world. They can be your best friend, your playmate, your confidant and hairstylist. It can also be a little tiring, especially when that sister is younger.
The older you get the more you want to do your own thing, and then you become an adult and things change yet again. Jasmine is two years younger than me. She was a great toy for a while, and then she was fun to have around when she got her own opinion on what we should be doing. I will admit there was a stretch of time in which I didn’t appreciate her fully. That’s long gone, though; now, she’s one of my favorite people in the world. Summing up why I love her in five reasons is going to be tough.
Reason One: A sister is always there; no matter what you’ve done they have an ear for you to talk in, a shoulder for you to cry on and a fist for whoever decided to hurt you. Jasmine is the type that you don’t want to make mad. I learned that the hard way growing up. Still that tenacious spirit can come in handy when it’s not directed at you.
Reason Two: You can be as crazy as you want in their presence and it doesn’t phase them. They won’t turn around and make fun of you behind your back. Jasmine knows just how goofy I can get when I’m bored, or if I have too much caffeine… or due to million different other things. It’s okay because she’s the same way. When we were younger, turning on the radio and making up dance moves to pass the time was normal… And I can’t dance at all. My nickname was Spaz in high school.
Reason Three: Sisters support each other. Jasmine will be the first person to jump up and cheer me on. Whether it’s graduating from high school or most recently with my Associates degree, she’s always been there, pushing me to keep going. She has a habit of doing that in everything; my writing included.
Reason Four: They give you someone to look up to. Jasmine is an incredible person. She’s strong, and she never backs down. When she became pregnant with her first child she pushed on. She graduated high school and she’s done great things with her life. I can only hope to be like her.
Reason Five: The last one, I feel like I should have some sort of grand reason why I love Jasmine, but I can’t qualify her in five reasons. I love her because she never falters, she never stumbles through whatever life throws at her, and she does it with a smile. She always has a kind word, or a joke, and she is perfect in every way. Happy Sister’s Day!
