This just in: Occam’s razor (also written as Ockham’s razor, Latin lex parsimoniae) is a principle of parsimony, economy, or succinctness used in logic and problem-solving. It states that among competing hypotheses, the one that makes the fewest assumptions should be selected.
In other words…
The simplest answer is probably the right answer.
Suppose there really is a conspiracy surrounding the behavior of the Republican Party. Suppose they are not bad at math and are instead, making bad math errors on purpose. Suppose they actually understand History and are ignoring it…on purpose. Suppose the Republican Party really is controlled by a few extremely wealthy individuals. Suppose those puppet-masters really are trying to overthrow our system of economics and government to replace it with a sort of anonymous plutocracy.
To further investigate this idea, I pretend that this is EXACTLY what is happening…and then I ask some questions…
Question: Why is the Republican Party not doing anything to create jobs.
Answer: There are several reasons for this; chief among them is the need to create fear among the populace. This is a party that thrives on creating fear and then promising to save you. Secondly, high unemployment means low wages. People will settle for a low paying job rather than receiving nothing.
This leads to the second question : Why is the Republican Party anti-unemployment benefit?
Answer: The more people who have no benefits, the more people who are looking for a job. The more people looking/competing for a job, the lower the wages. I know we are told about the lazy 47% but that is as factual as the Easter Bunny.
Note: Wage rates are important. Depending on your industry, a small fluctuation in wages can mean the difference between a profit or a loss. For example, in the Semiconductor industry, the cost of Direct Labor is between 5% and 10% of the total Cost of Goods Manufactured (COGM). This means a small change in the cost of labor will not have a big impact on overall costs. (raise 5% by 10% and you get 5.5% or an overall increase in COGM of .5% even though labor went up by 10%) In other industries, labor may make up 50% of COGM. In this case, if labor goes up 10% from 50% to 55%, the total COGM went up by 5% – a significant amount.
Question: Why are the Republicans interested in things like abortion and women’s rights?
Answer: They aren’t. What they are really doing with these issues is pandering to the evangelical right. This is where God and Fear go hand in hand. Once again, this is a “create fear so we can save you” issue.
Question: Why don’t the Republicans seem to care what the majority of Americans want with regards to things like taxes, the economy, education and infrastructure?
Answer: They, like any party, only care enough to keep getting elected. Due to extreme Gerrymandering, the Republicans hold more seats than they should if you go simply by population. Because of this, they’re members are not in danger of losing their seats. So why care about what everyone else wants. They need only cater to those Far Right people in the carefully crafted districts.
Question: Why not go with a popular vote? Why not have districts created by non-partisan boards?
Answer: Because both Parties would have to agree to this. Right now, these are the only things keeping the Republicans on the map at all. Keep in mind, if they were in charge, they would want these things and the Democrats would be against them. So this will never change.
Question: Why do Republicans claim the press is against them?
Answer: Because some will believe anything their party tells them. And others will start to think, “Hey, I’ve heard that so much, maybe there is something to it.” I know that I find myself frequently re-checking sources to make sure that this constant “complaint” by the GOP is without merit. The bottom line is that the press basically tries to tell the truth (take out Fox who makes no effort and MSNBC who makes a career out of making fun of Fox). The truth, however, is a lot like this blog post. The Republican party is terrified that their thinly veiled agenda of keeping the poor down will become obvious to everyone – so they cast doubt where they can.
Question: Why are the Republicans trying to rework Social Security and Medicare?
Answer: These measures all push the cost of retirement and healthcare down the food chain. The poor will carry a much heavier cost while the wealthy feel no pain. The less money the population controls, the more power the wealthy have over them. This is a clear attempt to increase the cost of these programs to the poor and elderly. It’s hard to care about air pollution when you are just trying to feed your family.
Question: What does the future hold if the Republican Party takes over?
Answer: This is an easy one. Read 1984. Seriously. This is their game plan. Read it and see the use of fear; the use of power over the powerless. Look at what Winston thinks after the rat cage is removed. The rate cage (placed around his head by Big Brother) is taken away by Big Brother as a supposed act of benevolence. When this happens, Winston says, “I love Big Brother.” In this book you will also notice that Big Brother is constantly at war and its considered treason to notice that they change sides from time to time in order to keep the war going. The book implies this is basically a distraction to keep people cheering the efforts of Big Brother to keep them safe.
Question : Jim, are you a conspiracy theorist?
Answer: Probably (dang it) At least for the time it is taking me to write this post. This is really a hard call to make. Racists don’t see themselves as racists; they see themselves as – right. Conspiracy theorists think they are just opening other people’s eyes to the obvious. They never think they are crying “The sky is falling!”
So there you have it. I have only touched on a few issues. There are others. For example, why are the Republicans in favor of tax cuts but not in favor of a Stimulus. Both put money back into the economy but a stimulus accomplishes things while a tax cut buys villas on the Mediterranean. Why is building roads a waste and building tanks not? Why do Republicans oppose gun control and even research into gun violence? Why do the oppose the Violence Against Women act? Why do they oppose helping out Americans after Sandy? This list of odd behaviors and positions goes on and on. Surprisingly, these are all easy to answer if you look at it as “Their goal is to overthrow democracy, not support it.”
In its simplest form, this War Against Us is being fought using the following two tactics: (1) Get people to look the other way and then (2) Funnel the money to those that would be kings
I don’t necessarily believe there is a conspiracy. It’s just that the alternative is equally hard to believe – the fact that the Republican Party has no idea how an economy or a democracy works.
Here is your quote for the day: “But they can rule by fraud, and by fraud eventually acquire access to the tools they need to finish the job of killing off the Constitution.” – Robert Anton Wilson
I will close with a demonstration as to how easily we are controlled. There is a new Facebook posting that says Obama is paying a dog trainer $102,000 a year to train his dog. If this sounds unbelievable – good for you. It is not true. It’s just something someone posted and those that want to believe…simply believe. They are now mad at Obama for something that never happened. Puppets are going to be puppets.
Don’t be fooled. Question everything.
Then you can put on a cape and save the world.
Up, up and away…
