You are going through life just fine with your own quirks and your own bad habits when along comes a friend who guides you into an additional bad habit that you absolutely did not need. No I am not talking drugs or alcohol or even hot sex, but high calorie, high fat snacks! Yea buddy, I needed that! Thanks a lot…I think. So when you eat a granola bar, you expect it to be nutritious and healthy…maybe dry and tasteless but a healthy alternative to candies. This granola bar is like candy, bad for your teeth and your waistline! But I cannot stop eating them!
One major drawback to these Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars Almond granola bars is that they WILL definitely melt in a hot car or on an expedition (at the mall or hiking, wherever your life takes you these days!) The almond butter coating at the bottom of the granola bar is similar to white chocolate…it will melt! So here is your warning…these do not travel well! They have melted just coming from the store, in the car on the way home, not ten minutes away! They do firm back up but pretty yucky if you are out and about and trying to eat a dripping granola bar.
These granola bars come in an orange box of six, they are called Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars Almond. Wow long name and tough to remember! If you buy these and like them, you will need to ensure you buy the same kind (almond) the next time you pick them up because they do have peanut flavor too. Possibly others but I have not seen any other flavors. I am a person who loves my sweets and salt to be mixed together….I think I am the only person who loves crushed potato chips on top of my ice cream! No sprinkles for me, thank you! So I expected to adore these granola bars and I do! I tried them first at a friend’s home and have been buying them ever since.
These granola bars are different from others…they taste and look different. You can see sticky gooey granola mixed with nuts on top of a creamy thin bottom layer of almond nut butter which melts in your mouth! The whole almonds were distasteful to me…taste great but too chunky! I would have preferred them crumbled up! So you get chewy, melting almond nut butter which is very sweet, and then the hard crunch of a whole nut. The flavor is very sweet….little salt to it unless you count the salt of the almond nuts. Most people will say these are too sweet but sweetaholics like me will eat them up! I would rather have one of these granola bars than a candy bar…it is actually sweeter than many candy bars! When I am craving something sweet, it takes two of them to kill my craving but they are pretty filling. Each bar is 1.2 ounces and of course the serving size is one bar.
All the bad & good stuff per granola bar: 160 calories, 60 calories from fat, 7 g total fat, 2 g saturated fat, 0 g trans fat, 170 mg sodium, 3 g protein, 0 mg cholesterol. The main ingredients are almonds, high maltose corn syrup, sugar, rolled oats, and crisp rice. So would I recommend them? If you like sweets, you will love them. But do not blame me if you gain more weight eating these than your regular candies!
