If you are like me, you have used the excuse “there is no time to workout” one too many times. School and work consumes most of my day so sometimes the thought of adding a workout regime stresses me out. The thought of going for a run or working out at the gym feels like too much work some days. I have projects and deadlines. I really do not have any time to workout! This was before I found a nice new app called Popsugar (found on the iTunes store). This app walks me through short workouts I can do when I am limited on time. There are 10-minute yoga and pilates routines, as well as a 20-minute run routine. Some personal trainers will tell you that if you can just fit in 20 minutes of a high intensity workout a day you can keep yourself in good shape. I think it is easier to find a 20-minute time to workout then an hour. I love working out, do not get me wrong; it is just that some days my schedule does get in my way. The Popsugar app gave me exercises I could do with a limited schedule. Even a little bit of exercise is better than nothing at all. The best part of all is that Popsugar is absolutely free to download and is located from the app store on iTunes.
Another app I love that is free to download from the app store on iTunes, is the Nike Run tracker with GPS. It is free to download however you also need the Nike chip in your running shoe. Sold separately of course but I digress here. I love this Nike training app because you can plan and track your walk or run workouts. You can set the walk or run by time or distance and then listen for motivational milestone cheers. You can also map your walks or runs using the GPS tracker. What is so completely cool about this app is that it measures how long I run and knows how many miles I log each week. I can choose the pre-programed run or I can customize my own run. The downside is that it is a little investment to purchase the chip but not enough to drain your life savings so I say it is worth it. If you are the type of person that needs that little extra push to keep you moving, then this app is for you.
Finally, the Self magazine workout apps contain good exercises to get your rear in gear. I am going to be incorporating the workouts into my gym routine this year. All I have right now is a before picture. I am hoping to be leaner (not meaner) by spring with the help of the workouts in the Beach Body app. I will write a follow up article in the spring so you can find out if the workouts in the app really work. I guess they will only work if I do the exercises regularly. The trick is exercising regularly. Exercise is a life long endeavor. It makes you feel good inside and out. I would Love to get back into the pants I wore 10 years ago. I guess you can call them my skinny jeans. Isn’t that the perpetual game though to fit into our younger self again. Although why would I want to fit into those old pants again anyway is beyond me. They are probably out of style.
