The NFC is always one of the most competitive divisions and one of the hardest to predict who will come out on top with all teams having a chance year in and year out. But I believe I know who are the top teams in the division this year and who will come out on top. Here are my NFC East predictions.
Washington Redskins – The Redskins are my choice this year to take the NFC East and advance to the playoffs. With RG III returning from injury and another year of experience, I look for him to maybe not have as big of numbers but to be more productive all around. Also, Alfred Morris will carry more of the load this year in the running game while they try and protect RG III, so look for him to have a big year again. RG III still has great options all over the offense and his ability to run is going to make this offense hard to stop. The Redskins defense is also solid especially at the linebacker spot with Kerrigan, Orakpo, Riley, and Fletcher. It was a tough decision to pick the Redskins over the Giants, but I believe they are a little bit better of a team this year than the Giants, and they have an easier schedule, to me, than the Giants.
New York Giants – The Giants are always going to have a shot to win games as long as Eli Manning is running the show, and this year I believe he has a little bit better of an offense to work with. They are returning Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks, who provide great targets for Manning, but they picked up TE Brandon Myers, and WR Reuben Randle is an underrated player in my opinion. I believe the key to this offense though will be RB David Wilson; he showed what he could do toward the end of the season with some breakout plays where he showcased his speed and athletic ability. If Wilson can stay healthy, he should be key to the running game and opening up the passing game for Eli. The Giants defense is going to be good if they can stay healthy. They have one of the better defensive lines in the league and solid defensive backs all around. It will be a tough battle between the Redskins and the Giants for that top spot but I see the Giants finishing in second place.
Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboys are always one of the hardest teams in the NFL to predict how they will do, and it’s mainly due to Tony Romo and injuries. Romo is a time bomb waiting to explode; he can be so good and then do something so dumb that costs the Cowboys the game. He just got a huge extension, so the pressure will be on him to play like a superstar this year. I will admit it is fun to watch him play, but it’s mainly because of the fact that you have no idea what he is going to do which is bad for the Cowboys. It’s not all his fault though. The Cowboys struggles, the running back spot has been so inconsistent due to the fact none of the can ever stay healthy from Felix Jones who is no longer with the team and DeMarco Murray. But the Cowboys made the RB position a priority this off-season and are determined to keep the running game going all season long. The receiving core is solid with Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, and Jason Witten. The defense though is where I think the Cowboys will lose most of their games, I don’t think they have the talent there to compete with the elite NFL teams . The CB position is suspect, the projected safety’s for this season Will Allen and Barry Church combined for a total of 40 tackles last season, the defensive line should alright with the their two studs at DE and the LB’s are a solid group as well.
Philadelphia Eagles – The Eagles have potential to be an average team in the NF,L but with all that has happened this off-season, I don’t see them winning more than five games this year. The don’t know who their QB is going to be yet. Their best WR is already hurt and will miss the season, and Riley Cooper has created a huge stir with his racial remarks at a concert this summer that were caught on camera. They also have a new coach who is trying to bring is college offense to the NFL, so no one has any idea how that is going to play out. The Eagles have some talent on defense but I don’t believe it’s enough to compete with the rest of the NFC East. The offense will have to rely on RB LeSean McCoy, TE Brent Celek, and WR DeSean Jackson, and two out of the three of them are injury risk as well as their potential QB Michael Vick who has battled injuries his whole career. This is the best spot for the Eagles right now as the other teams in the NFC East are just better teams right now.
That is my predictions for the NFC East this season. Tell me what you think and which ones you agree and disagree with. Check back for my NFC North predictions.
