This spice used in Asian food and drinks is the center of attention in the medical field for it’s ability to inhibit tumor growth. This is thanks to it’s significant quantities of the anti-inflammatory anti-oxidant Curcumin. Besides being a powerful weapon against cancer, it may also reduce bad cholesterol, prevent Alzheimer’s, and more. More studies are being done on this spice to uncover how much Turmeric could really benefit us.1
The subject of an always hot debate, especially the past ten years. But research shows that in lab tests cannabinoids (the substances in marijuana) had significant anti-tumor effects in lab mice.2
Besides bringing firepower to cancer treatment, marijuana’s greatest life-saving trait is the fact that it is a much safer alternative to many treatment drugs out there. For just one example it works as an anti-depressant.3 Using marijuana as an anti-depressant may be a better alternative to dangerous pharmaceutical anti-depressants that cause suicidal thoughts.
There’s really too many benefits of this to list so I recommend doing your own reading on medical marijuana, starting with Wikipedia’s well sourced Medical Cannabis page.
Of course, jail is not good for your well-being. It is important to stay within your state and federal guidelines, which hopefully become more lenient as we continue to discover more about the benefits of this plant.
Now before you get ready to do keg stands for your health, let me explain why this made the list.
Too many studies show a decreased risk for heart disease and moderate alcohol consumption. Moderate alcohol consumption works in that way by improving your HDL, or good cholesterol levels. It has also been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and blood clotting.
There is a correlation between alcohol consumption and increased risk of breast cancer, but research has shown this is caused by the folate deficiency that alcohol can create by minimizing absorption. A multivitamin or at least a folate supplement may neutralize this risk. You should be taking a multivitamin anyways though!
It is important to know that moderate drinking is one or two drinks a day for men, one a day for women. A drink is considered one shot of 80 proof liquor, one twelve ounce beer, or one five ounce wine.4 Red wine may be the ideal choice, as it contains resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant that research has shown to have anti-cancer effects.5
An alcohol “regiment” should be taken in very careful stride though, as alcohol is a highly addictive substance with severe physical withdrawal symptoms.6
Diabetes is a growing problem in the United States and has presence in many other countries. This humble fruit that has become such a staple in our lives is a powerful antagonist to Type-I and maybe Type-II diabetes. Research done by East China Normal University suggests that compounds in pumpkin regenerate damaged pancreatic cells in rats, and boost insulin production. The research team has concluded that pumpkin is effective prediabetic and diabetic supplemental treatment.7
Top that off with loads of vitamin A, the cancer preventative anti-oxidant beta-carotene, and beta-cryptoxanthin (which helps prevent lung cancer), and you have a life-saving and versatile food.8
The amount of things we hear about artificial sweeteners can be scary. They seem like a risk to a well-read person who is watching their sugar. There are, however, harmless and helpful sweeteners out there.
Stevia has proved in multiple studies to have a positive effect on the consumer. The therapeutic effects include anti-hyperglycemia (to go along with the pumpkin), anti-hypertensive, anti-tumor, immunomodulatory (assisting the immune system), and more.9
I know what I am putting in my morning coffee from now on!

We have all heard that before, what good advice that was! Broccoli has this amazing little organic compound called sulforaphane. What this amazing substance does is it blocks the formation of tumors and has an anti-tumor effect. Broccoli has one of the highest quantities of sulforaphane in foods.10 So keep the broccoli in your diet, and it will probably decrease your chances of getting cancer.

Tomato sauce has the highest bioavailability of lycopene.13 Perhaps a bowl of pasta a day with whole grain or vegetable noodles would deliciously armor you from prostate cancer!
Looking at a jar or bottle of extra virgin coconut oil (that is the kind you want) it can be a bit worrisome. Even more so if you remember the 90’s and all the saturated fat hype, and coconut oil contains a LOT of saturated fats! Not to worry though, the saturated fat in coconut oils are call MCT’s (Medium Chain Triglycerides). They get metabolized rapidly in the liver and have beneficial effects on brain disorders such as epilepsy and Alzheimer’s. Lauric Acid in coconut oil as well as the by-product monolaurin is a natural anti-pathogen that kills bacteria, viruses and fungi and is particularly effective against Staph. The saturated fats in coconut also raise HDL levels (good cholesterol), lower bad cholesterol and triglycerides, and improve blood coagulation and antioxidant function, all factors reducing your risk for heart disease.
Of course with obesity as a growing and dangerous entity in America, it has the added benefit of increasing fat metabolism of the consumer assisting in weight loss greatly.
For coconut oil’s final life-saving aspect, applied topically its a great sunscreen!14
