One Life to Live Goes on Indefinite Hiatus: Cancellation Possible Again in 2013

by fat vox

It was announced today that Prospect Park (PP) has placed One Life to live on an indefinite hiatus until the lawsuit against ABC is settled. PP is suing ABC, alleging that ABC has made it difficult for them to continue OLTL. Of the OLTL characters that were loaned to ABC to appear on General Hospital, two of them were killed. The reasons aren’t known exactly why ABC decided to kill Starr and Cole’s daughter, Hope. However, the actress who played Starr, Kristen Alderson, reported when she first appeared on GH that the decision had been made to kill off Cole because neither actor who played him was available. This certainly wasn’t ABC’s fault!

Whether PP has the right to sue ABC isn’t at question here. But as many OLTL fans are asking, since when is a soap opera’s character’s death an insurmountable obstacle? It is a normal occurrence on soap operas for characters to return from the dead.

PP is also complaining about the three OLTL actors not returning who were loaned to ABC to be used on GH. The three actors never returned to resume their roles on OLTL after the soap opera returned to production. PP is alleging that the three actors were encouraged not to return, as if ABC stole them. It isn’t those three actors’ faults that these two soap operas were produced on opposite sides of the country. Not to mention, it isn’t as if they were doing guest appearances on GH, their characters became main characters on GH, which meant the actors had to move to CA.

The bottom line is that PP took far too long to resurrect OLTL after buying the rights to produce the show. Does PP really believe that they can shelf OLTL, focus on All My Children, and then try to produce it again at a later date? By then, all of the crew and actors will have moved on to other jobs.

Kassie DePaiva, who plays Blair Kramer on OLTL, posted today that she was saddened by the news that Prospect Park will be shelving One Life to Live. The OLTL actors who hung in there the first time, waiting for PP to get OLTL restarted, were amazing to do so. It’s just not likely to happen a second time. We, the fans, will miss you, One Life to Live!
