Anyone with a computer can produce online articles these days, and that is a wonderful thing. Nearly everyone who wants to can put their thoughts into words and be a published writer on the world wide web, they can even get paid! I am grateful for this, and have taken advantage of it myself, I love the fact that I can turn my thoughts, experiences, and opinions into articles and actually get paid for what I have to say. I am still learning, and one thing I learned is that being successful as a content producer isn’t easy, it takes a certain kind of person, patience and a lot of time and effort, especially in the beginning.
What does it take to be successful online article writer?
1.) Experience and Expertise– If a content producer is going to produce credible content, and a lot of it, they need to have a lot of life experience, or a certain field that they are an ‘expert’ in. Basically they need to have something to pull from when they are writing, things they have firsthand knowledge about so they can share that knowledge with their readers. If the writer does not have a lot of experience or expertise, it will reduce the writers credibility, and become hard to find things to write about, especially over time.
2.) Ideas- Content producers need to constantly be coming up with new ideas, especially if they are writing everyday. Writers need to be creative, they need to scan their thoughts, and find ways to turn their thoughts into interesting, engaging articles. They need to find ways to put new twists on things that are already out there. A good writer needs to be unique, they need to have something new and fresh to say. Successful online writers usually write new articles every day, and that means they need to have a lot of ideas.
3.) Must be articulate- A successful writer is good at putting their thoughts into words. Some people are better at this than others, but people who make writing a daily practice usually get better at this in time.
The best writers are avid readers and writers and can articulate very well. When they have an idea, it isn’t very hard to turn it into an article.
4.) Patience- Online article writing requires a lot of patience, especially when some of the writer’s payment is tied to page views. First of all, articles need to be reviewed, and this takes time, not all articles are approved the first time, so a writer may have to go back and make changes. Payment is not immediate, it is usually only upon publication, or sometimes entirely depending on page views. If a writer wants to make a good income on page views alone, they will have to produce a lot of content, and that requires sticking with something a long time before achieving the results they desire.
5.) Good grammar and spelling- Grammar and spelling is very important, without these foundation skills, articles are unlikely to be accepted, especially not for payment.
6.) Online savvy- A writer needs to consider search terms, and how their article will be found, they need to include keywords and write in a format to fit online reader’s tastes. Writing for online audiences is a lot different than writing a paper for school. Writers also need to know how to promote their articles to increase page view earnings.
The very successful article writers have all of these qualities, they are also very dedicated to their writing and usually write almost every day. Treating online writing like a job, taking it seriously, improving constantly and being consistent will make anyone a more successful online writer.
