I first want to say that I LOVE and HATE this show – and haven’t yet missed an episode or reunion show. I have my entire, yes entire, office watching it too! I have lovingly termed the show “Hot Mess in Atlanta”, or “Hot Mess” for short, which applies to the whole Love and Hip Hop series, not just the Atlanta version. When I talk with my friends, we always have a discussion on “the latest Hot Mess” – and our views of how disgusted we are with it, and that it continues. More than that, we are ashamed, embarrassed, and yes, even mortified, that we watch it at all! It is a conundrum – one that I have yet to be able to peel myself away from each and every time it comes on.
It is like a train wreck, a tornado, a tsunami, and an earthquake all rapped into one….you simply can not look away!! I love this show for its’ entertainment value, however, it is setting a poor example of what society, and women, more importantly, should come to expect out of each other. Maybe the cast of females on the show don’t know that the show is aired, and that there are young women, teenagers, and those who haven’t found positive role models to identify with, watching every week. WHO DOES THIS STUFF??? Grown women (mothers, mostly) are on this show, dressed like skanks, physically fighting (a felony charge in most states), demeaning each other to the most significant degree, generally behaving like ghetto hoes, and we are glamourizing it??!! I know, I know, I’m one of the ones watching, but I can’t help it! Its Terribly Magnificent, Mind Numbing, Disasterous entertainment! I will say that I contain myself enough not to allow my child to watch it, that would be unreasonable, and if she EVER acted a 10th of how these “women” acted, I would be ashamed to identify her as mine.
Maybe it’s that I just can’t get past the part that people really act this way in real life, I can’t even process that! So call it research, yes, that sounds good, I’m researching how people in this day and age with money in the music business behave. Not to say that I haven’t had my own gloriously ignorant moments in life, however, by the time you hit about 27 years old, you need to gather yourself, stop acting like an infant, and dressing like a hooker. Cover it up already! No matter how good it looks, no one wants to see it all, all of the time, and if they do, they usually go to a strip club to see it. Show some respect for yourself, and your children, stop it, stop it, stop it! I have extensive experience with etiquette lessons, and how a proper lady should act, LADIES from the show – I’m more than happy to instruct you on how one should carry themselves, what you are doing looks bad on all women and mothers all around the world. FYI, you can also pay someone to give you etiquette lessons, I’m also quite positive you could even take an online lesson or two. Skip buying one skank-a-too outfit this week and invest in some useful life skills.
The Grandmothers in the series, are you serious??!! You do realize, ladies, that you are women of a certain age, and should behave in an appropriate manner…. No wonder these women act the way they do, look at who raised them! Enough said on that front. The one exception that I found was Yandy and her mother, they both seem to be loving and sane (a rare quality on this show) and have a decent comprehension of how a lady should conduct herself. The rest of the squad, though, behaves more like a STABLE, if you know what I mean.
I have some amazing women role models in my life, and they’d be shocked and alarmed if they watched the show, which they wouldn’t because they….well, it’s obvious why they wouldn’t. More importantly, I’d be embarrassed to admit to them that I am addicted to it! Please cancel it so my guilty pleasure of watching “Hot Mess” can be over. Clearly, if it is left up to me, I’ll never stop!
