My Lifetime’s Preacher’s Daughters was more than I expected in a reality show about PK’s (preacher’s kids). The fathers and mothers seemed to have their feet planted in mature reality; the girls “not so much.” Each girl’s plans, conversations, and behaviors came out in the open; and the dads got a heavy dose of truth in the episode Daddy’s Little Angels. A recap of each girl’s life during episode one follows below:
Taylor
This sweetie showcases a lot of skin. She sneaks out of the house to hang out with friends. Her mother told her to check with her father first, and she didn’t. I guess she had a different interpretation of the words,”Run it by your dad.” When she gets to the waterpark, she tells her friends that she is glad that she was there and not at home wishing to be there. Her ex, a bad boy by her own admission, shows up and they tempt each other. In a later conversation with her sister, she reveals some of her ideas for how to make an easy living. Her daddy finds out and ends up praying that his daughter does not become a porn star.
Kolby
Her dad thinks she’s ready for dating, and her mother is the one to set the standards. She makes Kolby sit through a graphic sex talk (seminar) and shares the peeled-back truth about all kinds of sex. Later, she makes the potential boyfriend, (Micah), fill out an application and sit through one of her obligatory drills. “He’s not gonna wanna date me after this,” Kolby tells her. Her mother thinks that if her approach filters out any young man, it is a good thing.
Olivia
This 18 year old mother of baby boy Eden is ready to share an unfortunate truth with her parents. She tells them that there are two boys that she slept with close together, and she is not sure of the baby’s paternity. Her dad is heartbroken, and tells her that she had a chance to tell them the whole truth months ago. The good thing is that Olivia now wears a promise ring, and has pledged to be a secondary virgin. In essence, this means she will remain pure until marriage.
Time Will Tell
Time will tell what career choice and life choices Taylor will make. Time will tell whether Micah will meet the demands required for dating Kolby. Time will tell whether Kolby will do her part to help him keep his word. Time will tell who is the father of young Eden. Time will tell whether Olivia can keep her vow of secondary virginity.
Conclusion
These girls need strong parents, and they have them. These girls need parental inteference, and they have it. These girls need strong hands to guide them, and they have them. These girls need prayer, and thank God, that because they have strong Christian parents, they have that in spades.
These daddies now know, that what they have is a daughter who pushed some boundaries, or would if they could. These daddies needed something to pry their eyes open, so they could see how well their girls measure up on the angelic scale. These daddies now know that there are some other words which would better describe their daughters – for “angel” just doesn’t cut it.
