The Holidays are near and it’s time to get your business ready. I personally own and manage an online store where I sell various items from greeting cards to T-Shirts. I am responsible for creating graphics, designing the products, pricing, and marketing the products. Different times of the year are busier than others and the Holidays are my busiest time. Here are some ways that I prepare my business for the Holidays.
Showcasing products that can be gifts.
For me I showcase items that can be gifts on the front page of my store. If you have a physical store you can do the same thing with the front of your store or store window. Put your gift items where your customers will see them first. If customers are browsing through various websites, or window shopping instead of directly going into the store and browsing, having these items right there will catch their attention and get them to look around more. You want their first glance of the store to grab their attention.
Add a recommendation to the sale tag. Add various information about the product that includes recommendations on which person may like this as a gift. For an example, if you are selling a pink bath robe you can include a tag that says “A perfect gift for mother or sister”. For my online store I like to add recommendations in the item description box.
Decorate the store for the Holidays but don’t cater to one group.
Make it bright and festive. You want to grab the attention of your customers and you want the store to feel inviting. If you want to appeal to a wider audience opt to decorate the store with either a winter scene or general “Holidays” instead of just Christmas. According to Gallup, as of 2010 only 51% of the U.S. considers Christmas as a “strongly religious” holiday. I personally do include religious products but I also have different products as well that appeal to all people from all different backgrounds. It’s best to offer all sorts of products instead of just catering to one group if you want good sales.
In this day in age many people use social websites such as Facebook. You can create a business page on Facebook to advertise your store. People can “like” your page and also share your page with others. You can put pictures, information about your store, and give updates, such as sales or new products, right onto the page. You can also give customers coupons to your store through Facebook as well. I love Facebook and find it’s one of the easier ways to market my store. I also recommend getting a Twitter and to keep up on the social media trends. You want to be able to reach your customers easily in a fast manner and social media is the best way to do as such.
